No scales in office

My office had started the p&l a couple of weeks ago but due to the snow we can't take out the trolleys or HCT's. All we can do is to revert back to using bags over the shoulder and carrying 2 or even 3 days worth of mail.

Now i questioned the dom on what is the weight for carrying a bag in conditions on walking in the snow (& possibly ice) he replied by saying "16kg, don't ask such a silly question". Personally i didn't think it was a silly question but if i fall on my ass with a 16kg bag and injure myself its my fault, and to add insult to injury we have no scales for weighing bags, so its all guess work.

I spoke to a union rep about why they have removed the scales "to make more room" he replied. One week later, and still no progress on getting the scales back on the shop floor...you can't even weigh the HCT which can't exceed 75kg of mail. Do you think i should speak to someone higher up the union to get this sorted out? Its against health & safety within a workplace

IIRC, in order of delivery bags are 16kg, 14kg, 12kg, 12kg, 10kg, 10kg, 8kg, 8kg etc - but yeah, in snow / ice, halve the weight matrix, if the DOM whinges, say you are bagging it up to what YOU think is safe to carry in the conditions, if he wants you to take 16kgs ask him to put it in writing, and finally, as you have no scales, then overestimate your bag weights ( ie it might actually be 6kgs, but you think it is 8kgs ), although it might be worth putting in a written request for new scales, cos if you have none that breaks RMs H&S rules ( SSOW )

Thanks for the reminder PM....sounds like you need to remove your Rep, and when he asks why, say "You're not much cop as a rep, so we're making more room..."
