To senior IR reps who are damaging the union
Judging by the posts on this site, there are a number of senior IR reps who are siding with management and not giving their members proper representation.
Now that management have agreed not to use the threat of Executive Action, these 'pussy' reps can no longer hide behind the excuse that they are behaving in their members' best interests by making a smaller concession than the one that would have been forced on them.
In other words, there is nowhere to hide.

when i had my union induction training to be a local rep the div rep told me the cwu would never be independant of the business like other unions. would the cwu wield more influence if it was totally independant? perhaps notMinisterofCucumber wrote:Judging by the posts on this site, there are a number of senior IR reps who are siding with management and not giving their members proper representation.

Gideon 60,
Did your div rep give you your induction training?
It seems unusual as all training is meant to be delivered by the Education department otherwise how could the union ensure consistency?
Also, could you explain in what way the CWU is not "independant of the business like other unions."

MINSTER
I realise you work in a different part of Royal Mail (supply chain ) but you should only comment on what you know rather than make things up for whatever reason.
Tell me where has their been any office who have had executive action imposed on them as a result of this agreement. By that they have been taken through the Industrial relations framework all 3 stages and then recieved notification that the revison is going to be bought in by executive action ? It has not happened.
Yes some offices may have been put under pressure by management to introduce the revision and then agreed it but they did not have the revison imposed. Just as many offices have agreed revisions to get the attendance patterns and money even thou they believed the revision will not work. In my view that is wrong as the agreement allows for full involvement and we should not have agreed the revison unless we believed it would work.
Now in terms of senior reps in the union supporting management what a load of tosh !! I have fought more battles and taken more strike action then most on here in my time and my principles and belief in reprsenting the members I am elected to has not dimished and will never do. The vast majority of reps I know belief the same.
Whilst we should and must support the members who are attacked by management or have revisons which are failing which we must make sure get put right , it is also the reps job to sometimes tell the members some hard truths. This includes stop racing around , stop driving their cars , stop coming in early , working their breaks and a whole range of other issues which means that an office protentialy is having far more hours to clear the work. Management when they introduce revisons do not inlcude this hourage and beliefs your far more productive than you really are and therefore take more hours out of other offices.

No Offence dingo but you quite categorically managed to get quite a few things members shouldnt do and as Spilie said Spot on
but what about senior reps coming on here and telling members who dont have representation or who get told few facts what
managers cannot do like banking of hours, like phoning members and telling them to take a days annual leave cos there aint no work for them,
like telling them that they dont need to work over their contracted time, like being told that there hours of work cannot change on a whim of management.
There are loads of issues just like that on this site and whilst Postman, Teebs and many others tell them otherwise it would still be great to have it
in writing from someone senior that we can print out and place on the Dom's desk. It may save someone somewhere from going off with stress or
it may save someone from having a serious accident because they dont know to risk assess or they dont know how to say No to Doms without
that simple little message from the boys at the top table.
The time has come to stop turning the other cheek, time to stop shaking our heads in bitter dismay, time to stop mumbling our angry words.
The time has come for union.
The time has come for union.

Re: To senior IR reps who are damaging the union
Broxi the distrurbing thing is that an ltb was issued last week stating that there was no agreement to banking hours etc , so why was this not sent by your branch to your office.
If someone posted something on this site unless it had a cwu logo and came from someone in CWU headquaters than management would simply ingnore it. There is plenty of LTBs which have been issued on all the things you stated and they get issued to branch"s and anyone who has signed up to recieve them.
Its concerning that some branch"s do not relay them to all the local offices. I know a lot do but some obviously dont.
The reason a lot of senior reps do not come on here is normally it becomes open season on them, and whilst most are used to that face to face , it is differcult to respond to someone if you dont know who they are , where they work , whether they are a union rep or even telling the truth and can only then respond to a comment by giving their opinion which normally becomes an opportunity for others to attack. So most choose to stay away.
In fact I get a lot of stick for coming on here as most believe I should not give any information to the site and certnainly not be a target for people.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

It would be nice to have some resolution on the pay abatement for not making it in to work issue though.
That old chestnut has been around for years.
