Losing O/T- just before Christmas

... was told by lino on Saturday that, as all annual leave is cancelled for the next few weeks, I wouldn't be needed to prep my own walk next week (and I guess the next two ..) Asked about taking a "changeover assessment" driving thingummybob a few weeks ago as well (thought they might need more drivers over the period) - but that hasn't come to fruition either Wonder if they'll need me on my day off ?

(24hrs/wk p/t - with 6 month fixed-term contract finishing on Dec 27th ... apparently)

On 1 ,hand O/t always drops 2 weeks before xmas as all leave is cancelled,can come as a shock if first year in RM.

On the hand more O/T may be available such as pre shift and post shift IPS,Packet deliveries.

If a Mail center is near you,should be plenty of O/T their before Xmas.
What I did first year with RM, in my DO all o/t dried up just before xmas,asked about else where in RM and as usual got no where.So jumped in car went to mail center,who had unlimited o/t and glad of anyextra help.That was a few years ago so may be a little different now.

But in my local offices ,almost as much o/t you want with extra ips ,also bad weather helps O/T,If you are prepared to work in those conditions,unlimited cut offs need delivering.If not in your office,try making enquires in nearby offices,you have to do the leg work ,dont rely on anyone else to help you.Try the larger offices nearby.

AFAIK there has always been a block on booking leave/holiday during xmas pressure

Space Phoenix beat me to it. No annual leave can be booked through Christmas pressure, its always been that way. If you are on 5 on 1 off system you still get your week.

Depends on local agreements so you may not need to - At our office you can't actually select it so you would not have had a chance of booking it in the first place.

in Christmas pressure there is no annual leave and you only get time off if it your week off every 6 weeks.

With extra staff available - some will work at night duty, some will be on christmas cards sorting duty and some will do job as normal. upside is less IPS for full timers to do and less junk mail but more christmas cards / packets

Don't worry about the 6 months contract as you will (probably) be carrying on as normal unless you are really crap.
