Our dom has issued a letter (I use that term loosely as they were really just left lying on peoples frames), stating that everybody is expected to work overtime during the xmas period.
If you dont wish to do so you MUST give an explanation in writing why not (no later than today, 6th dec), and if you wish to finish on your time on any particular day you MUST give him 24 hours notice.

you don't need to put anything in writing, nor do you need to give notice.
although if you are finishing on time, it is recommended to say you are at the earliest opportunity on that day,

24 hours eh! That's very generous,we've got to give a weeks notice and have a note from our mum excusing us from ot and explaining why we are unable to work extra.

Over the years i've discovered a simple formula for deciphering if what a manager says is true or not.

Dear my beloved delivery office manager,

Thank you for your letter. As regards your earlier correspondence I wish to clarify my position in respect to overtime. I do not wish to do it. You requested a reason - because I do not feel like it. You will note that I am contracted for x hours, and that my working day begins at {00:00} and ends at {00:00}. It may be of some interest, should you require any further explanation of my stance as regards overtime, for you to read up on employment law. Compulsory overtime only exists on a contractual basis. After some diligent perusal of my contract, no such clauses apply to me, therefore I am not obliged to elaborate upon this explanation.

weve got backlogs galore in lincolnshire todays weather the coldest this year manager makes us deliver,2 women have falls i have a flat tyre and get stuck 3 times,other drivers really struggle,told to work to our time.what a disaster been in this job 15 years its at an all time low.

we haven't got our christmas duties agreed yet, i've already stated that i ain't working any overtime and that is the end of it .... now if he is looking for a excuse just state the fact that you don't have to work more than your contracted hours and if he ain't happy that is his problem and not yours ... and if he says it isn't satisfactory .... point out to him that you do not have to give him a reason for not working overtime
