Advice RE being sent to another D.O

Being sent to another D.O next week, maybe because my lino is fed up of my doing my contracted hours and cutting off because some days i'm not even getting 2.5 hours to complete my walk!

1st Q. It is another 15 min onto my journey(already a 50 minute 1) and due to nursery opening times/distance, I may not arrive until after my 9.00am start time and need to leave by my 3.00 finish time most days to collect my son/partner. How do I stand RE this as if I do arrive at 9.30 will they expect me to stay until 3.30......I will be late for my partner and son if that happens.

2.Do I get any petrol money towards extra miles???

3.Shall I go in and tell them what I expect or I will be cutting off more than likely as i'm doing contracted hours only.....i.e frame ready to bag up etc at 9.00/9.30

4.Why doesn't this union seem to want to attract new members or even show their presence.....4 weeks and do not know/haven't seen any1 in our 'union room'

My reply tbh is quite pointless to you as you are a new starter and you have no union rep to help you.
You should go to your office at your normal start time then they HAVE to take you to the new DO and make sure you get back in your duty time.

Sounds like they trying to break you in to become the quiet obedient newbies they are used to! Its shocking treatment but pretty normal by RM standards. Welcome to Royal Mail lol

Sorry to be negetive but its probably not going to get much better to be honest. Best thing to do is join the union so at least you can get a bit of back up if needed. Its only a couple £ a week so well worth it for new people!

Working in nearby offices – Areas will identify and agree with the CWU locally a approach (which could include the use of volunteers and reserves) to working in nearby offices within employees’ contracted hours which will include travel times and appropriate travel and subsistence arrangements

Find out from the unit rep what the local agreement on "Working in nearby offices" is....

As far as I am aware postman is right, the latest agreement to address this issue states that they can send you to another office but you report to your contracted office and it's their duty to provide you transport there and back, you do not have to drive in your car unless you are happy to do so in which case I'd demand petrol money. Do NOT let them take the piss, they will try it on.

Thanks for replies so far.....Yes, I would join the union but haven't seen the local rep(spoke to him about a problem the other week and he said he will be in the office...hmmm????) So not much point joining the union yet when as far as i'm aware, is no one on site and 75% of staff go against working rules anyway, use their cars etc
You think I have even seen let even know where the weighing scales are???

So looks like 2 options

1. Go to normal office at normal time, smile when I see my linos shock on his face at me being here and explain that they need to get me to other D.O and back(doubt that would improve my already 'tagged' problem attitude!)

2. Go to new D.O but demand petrol money for the week(In writing??) else I expect transport from my regular D.O

3. Throw a sickie for the week as I feel like I have man flu and couldn't wake up for sh*t this morning!

Option 1 mate. The other options will mean that RM will continue to move you to other offices when they feel like it
whereas option 1 they will stop. It is too much trouble to get someone to give you a lift and then get you back again within
your time. Good luck

Also, in my contract it does state that I can be moved to another D.O

Not sure if a good thing or not,as I do get away from my lino for a week, he seems to be the worst at my D.O anyway, just in terms of transmitting his expectations/views on the job. Maybe because he is new in the job........

We can all be moved to another DO if our Dom wishes it but in order to do this
he still has to get us there and back within our contracted time and that is why
most of us dont get moved.

Mine states that too and im a full timer of 8 years, but the agreement between CWU and Royal mail states if they want to move you to another office for a week or so they have to take you there and bring you back.

As long as that procedure is in the agreement, they can't say i'm being troublesome. Also, would have been nice for some info, all I got was a 'you'll be at xxxxxx D.O next week' no name of who to report to, where to report to,duties.....the usual R.M practice

If you feel kindly disposed towards your Dom then text him otherwise just show up tomorrow. Try to make sure there is a witness
when he speaks to you in case he tries to be an a*sehole

O.K, thanks again. Just left a message with my local rep so will see if he returns the message. To my D.O it is then!!!! wish me luck
I've never let people/managers walk all over me but to me it seems too many R.M staff do just that.
