I'VE BEEN TOLD BY A DRIVER FROM OUR LOCAL MAIL CENTRE THAT DOWN STREAM ACCESS TAKES PRIORITY OVER ALL OTHER MAIL DURING THE CURRENT PROBLEMS WITH THE WEATHER CONDITIONS,IS THIS A WINDUP OR CAN IT BE TRUE?

It would'nt surprise me if thats true. DSA in my office is treated the same as a 1st class stamp. They would rather have us sort that up on the IPS than live mail

We have been told all week to leave any mailsort in the frame if your not going there but all DSA is treated as first class, always has been.

So-what's the difference between a ordinary "TNT" DSA and a "TNT Premier" DSA ? Is it at the "client" end of things (payment etc) ??

Yes - once it in the DO it should be treated as 1st class.

We keep being told that mail volume is down and they say the figures prove it but do these figures include the dsa items? Royal Mail use to collect items and point A sort them and point B and deliver them at point C so the amount of mail at point A would be the amount of mail at point C. Now Royal Mail collect items and point A sort them at point B THEN the dsa mail comes in and this along with Royal Mails collected mail is deliverd at point C it seems to me that when Royal Mail use figures to justify the "drop in mail volume" they are only talking about the amount of mail at point A and not the amount that the delivery person has to deliver. Also the way packets are counted, I was told that they were counted by the york load not by actual items. So one york of packets could contain 50 items or 150 items how do they know? so how can they know how much mail the postie on the street is carrying?

Yes - once it in the DO it should be treated as 1st class.

All mail when it reaches the inward MC becomes 1st class so all mails once they reach the DO it's all first class. AFAIK in all MCs DSA gets sorted first.

Yes - once it in the DO it should be treated as 1st class.

In my office it gets streamed, first out is MS, then goes DSA then 2nd class then dated and 1st class (now though packets are left first no matter what they are).

you are spot on there mate.we are constantly blowing out on our wave 2 runs to d.o's and are leaving a lot more behind than we ever did before.
i think royal fail use dodgy figure to justify their dodgy actions.
