Delivery issues update

Just some information regarding traffic , IWT , Geo route and other related delivery issues.

As a result of the area reps in Birimingham who performed and traffic audit and proved that Royal Mail were understating DSA traffic , revenue protection traffic and other streams to the protetial tune of costing Royal Mail 20 million in revnue in Brmingham alone over a year, there is now a review which Royal Mail are currently undertaking. Along with Bob Gibson the two area delivery reps presented their finding including photographic evidence of Royal Mail not counting traffic accurately to Mark Higson and fellow members of the board.

Royal Mail have set up a group including the financial director and the two Brimingham area reps to review traffic recording. Of course a lot of work has to be undertaken to ensure that traffic in the future including both manual and mech are correct. The aim of this review is to produce findings and recommendations by March 2011.

You may be aware that as a result of union input and some live testing with the assistance of Paul Chapman who is the unions expert in work measurement that version 6.3 of the IWT has been deployed. Some of the changes of 6.3 include that large packets are given more time , taking redirections to the town corner and that the second 40% of sequenced mail gets more time to be prepped as your frame is already full.

Work is still ongoing on other issues of iwt and off course as this proves other changes are needed than new IWT versions will be agreed.

So what will happen to offices who have already been revised with previous criteria on the IWT's?


Will they be re-revised?

Will RM accept that in fact members are not dragging their heels, but unable to complete due to unrealistic IWT/Geo parameters? Or will they just carry on regardless with the B&H?

Thanks for the update Dingo - there are bound to be questions from Union and RMC members, but at least there is definite progress in that have accepted now that there is under recording of particular streams volumes.

Now all we need is to get TMan to agree.

However, i'm sure a lot of offices up and down the country have been saying traffic figures haven't been correct since individual offices stopped weighing their own mail and relying on MCs' figures! The question is do we go back to offices weighing their own mail as this is the most reliable and absolute solution. Why did RM stop this practice in the first place for?, to hide and distort figures so certain individuals could claim big bonuses?

I think they stopped it for the exact opposite reason. I think DOs were over reporting traffic levels. Thats the problem, when MCs are in rush they will send it to DOs for crash sorting or just move the presorted DSA from the MC to the DO without reporting it, this means DO traffic is inaccurate. At the DOs, when we reported traffic, DOMs may have over reported their traffic to protect their own budgets.

What we need is an independant monitoring program so that both sides can be confident of the figures produced. (Although not everyone will be happy even with this set up)

yes your right when we use to weigh our mail we was being told everyday by our dom that the area manager said all our figures where wrong, we use to have the dom there when we was weighing mail to prove it wasnt , but he had no balls to say anything to her , so we dont do it now and being told mails dropping , but there seem to forget about all the dsa mail what we have to deliver , run by clowns.

our line managers are using these nonsense figures and what they expect from us beccause of the improper counting of mail levels Is ridiculous. I know that some of our managers know these figures are wrong because some are ex postmen but they won't argue with the top manager so we look like we are lazy and I have never worked harder. A few guys where sent out to measure all the walks to feed the info into the pc and when they did they dicovered our office rather than not having enough work our office needed 4 more walks cause exsisting ones where to big. So the figures where scrapped and now the manager is working out our new 4 hour 15 walks with a nonsense pc programme.what a joke .they set it up so you can't win no matter how honest or hard working u are.

i personally dont trust any of our members in the mc as the dont give a damn bout us
on delivery
i think the only answer is delivery staff put in mc and recording our own figures
for too long mc have not been accountable for us on deliverys
ow are we suppose to do revisions if info is incorrect
