Any managers stop till last postie is back

This really pisses me off at our office. The manager deems its safe to deliver mail as long as we decide if its dangerous or not despite nearby offices being deemed its too dangerous to go out. Some people are out for 5,6,7 hours in temperatures as low as -12, cold wet feet, probably no hot drink but when they return to office not 1 manager is there. Thats seems absolutely ridiculous to me and is probably under the health and safety law illegal. The chances are quite high that an accident could take place and what happens if no managers are about? We have a bloke in registered locker but he aint no manager.

This has pi55ed me off for years

The business talks about working your paid hours and going the extra mile then when you get back you find the managers have gone home 2 hours before there proper time.
Then they pay them a huge bonus

Nope, I got a phone call this afternoon from a postie asking me how to set the alarm because it didn't seem to want to set.

2 things with this... 1, I don't work at that office any more and 2, I'm off sick. Gets to something when people phone me instead of a manager. AND I'm not even being paid for WPC any more either lol

Managers are allowed to "manage" their own time, so if they want to leave early they can!

Mind you it is the only thing in our DO that they actually "manage" to do!

We are under new management with a new line manager and a new DOM and both are there until the end !.

After years ,as a rep,banging my head against a wall, fighting a never ending outpouring of bullshit of gargantuan proportions I seem to be getting somewhere,I hope.

Very simple, you don't go out and deliver. He's passing the buck to you when it's the dom who should be making the decision if it's safe enough to go out and deliver. First if you do decide to go out and have an accident you've chosen to go out and deliver so you're liable not the dom or Rm and what idiot with half a brain would go out and deliver in those conditions if you have the option not to???

this morning, we where ready to tie up at 745. manager came and told us that there is a late dispatch and said it would be here for 8. when it did arrive the 3 managers on duty where busting the butts to get it sorted when someone asked "whats the rush" one of them turned to postie and said the quicker we get this done the quicker we get home!!!!!!! and there is poor us with 4 1/2 hours delivery still ahead of us!!!!!!!!

Every office should have a PIC ( person in charge) to deal with any problems. What if someone has a accident, a road traffic accident and gets injured who will contact the family. Managers have a duty of care to staff and if they are not at work how can they perform this role??
if you were abscent from point of duty and the s**t hit the fan then it would be conduct code time. It seems they like to leave early espcialley on a saturday so what happened to work yours hours and the old saying lead by example.

This is an excellent point! and one may I say the unions should bring up. It wasn't so bad in the 'old' days, pre SDD and pre 2010, the office was manned almost continually, with at least a PHG--and incoming back shift/night shift workers. There shouls as you say be at lwast one responsible person on site untill last man in!

I used to be the last man standing every Saturday when the managers buggered off at 0930 and I was there until 1.30 to clear the decks get the mail away and lock up and yes deal with the AODs, vehicle breakdowns etc without an extra penny .....................now would I call myself responsible

This annoys me a little as well, there's supposed to be a manager about until at least 3pm but there rarely is. I did some admin work in the office once when I was on light duties and the managers were all arguing amongst themselves about who was gonna stay back to catch the posties coming back early. I had to bite my tongue.

I remember Christmas 2008 I was in the Callers office and we got told we had to stay open until 5pm on Christmas Eve. Me and one other guy were the last people in the mail centre all the lights had been switched off before we even went to leave. Bit pissed off by that I was! I thought there ought to be at least a manager somewhere in the building until we left.
