Working Hours During Xmas

I'm off on holiday this week but have been informed by a colleague that the manager intends to change our working hrs during this time. Is he able to do this at such short notice? I thought 1 months notice had to be given for a change in hrs, and also only if agreement had been reached, not by EA which this seems to be. What happens if you have childcare issues?

Its normally part of the christmas package agreement that your office and cwu have entered into. For example we have agreed 22 hrs SA OT but this involves a 5am start.

In that respect that is fine, your making 22hrs SA whether you work it or not, what i'm saying is that because we still do long and shorts, that they are expecting us to just work longer on our shorter days and claim ext del no real planning at all, what if you don't want to work these extra hrs, or can't?

They have changed them at my office as well. We only got told Friday.

Monday hours 6 till 2 30pm. Less 20 minutes break finish at 2.10 pm
Tuesday hours 6.00 till 1 30pm. Less 20 minutes break finish at 1 10 pm
Wednesday 6.00 till 2 pm Less 20 minutes break finish at 1.40 pm
Thursday 6.00 till 2 pm Less 20 minutes break finish at 1.40 pm
Friday 6.00 till 2 pm Less 20 minutes break finish at 1.40 pm
Saturday 5.30 till 130 pm Less 20 minutes break finish at 1.10 pm

Obviously I have a day off in that. But saying that if you have childcare problems they should have told us earlier. One person that I know has to change his arrangements and he is not sure at the moment. And some staff has been on leave in our office this week who has not been notified.
Personally I would come in at 6 am sod them there error.
If you go to football matches on Saturday its going to be difficult.
On the bright side our manager said its job and finish. He would not ask you to do more work if you come back earlier than normal. Sounds good but he said he would detain us later till every walk and letter is throw off.

i have a life outside RM and it doesnt involve short notice changes for them

We have 20 mins around about 8 30am. The 20 minutes is your later break that's why we can finish 20 minutes early. It don't take Einstein to work that one out, does it.
And I never quoted 40 minutes anywhere.

Sounds like they trying to take advantage to be honest they cant just change your hours with no agreement from you. I think you just need to be strong and just tell them you will only work days that suit you! Iam having exactly the same problem at my DO but my boss seems to think i have to work when ever he needs me to with no notice at all!

i got a txt today from my lino saying i had to come in 1.5 hours early to help with the backlog of mail from the snow. I told him no chance lol. Got important things to do tomorrow morning like sleeping

Very useful info, ta! Last time our revision was going through we were told about 7 days before that it would be going ahead, but not what our hours would be, manager said he would tell us asap, and that's the best he could do, but he could change our hours any time,operational needs maybe

Well the week's holiday is over, I feel no better for it in many respects (but then I do suffer from Seasonal Affective Disorder) and today the Xmas pressure starts for real for me...

0800 starts, arriving to a bare frame, prepping my round everyday for the first time in months. So that's 1hr45mins extra in the morning, reckon I could easily be delivering until close to 1600 on the worst Xmas pressure, working my day off too. WIll make up for what is going to be a pants pay packet this week, just 22.5 hours for my holiday week, as the PTers are getting S/A rate for the extra as it was organised by lino over a month ago!

As far as i know it's 28 days to allow time for all three stages of disagreement to be exhausted.
Stage 1 is 1 week.
Stage 2 is 1 week.
Stage 3 is 2 weeks.
It should always be a negotiated change though..otherwise status quo should apply which means existing practice one week before stage one disagreement.
If Royal Mail can show an urgent operational or H&S need for the change they can override this though.
