Our managers are being put under pressure by the DSM to send us out on delivery, i'll give credit to the linos though as they're telling him no. That's 4 days of no deliveries now for most of the office, 5 days for some.

If it stays icy at the beginning of next week I wonder how long it will be before someone cracks and sends us out. Someone cheekily suggested today that if that happens maybe we will ALL have a fall and be unable to attend the next day..

Believe it or not one line manager once told me that there was such a demand for Royal Mail managers employers were actively head hunting them absolutely true..............not the head hunting..................I would imagine the Dayaks wouldn't bother with 'em. In all my years I have never seen such poor management......................having said that because of the corporate management system they don't actually manage, they simply obey orders and pass them on in the belief they are managing

I agree with Baleout wholeheartedly. I've been around a while and worked for a few companies in "the real world" and held down some reasonably senior management positions before some major life changing events led to me being where I am and I've met a lot of well balanced, intelligent and charming people in our uniform. Not many out of uniform though, unfortunately. Since being a postie for a few years I've formed my own opinions on the standard of manager I have encountered and had to deal with. Most of us pride ourselves in carrying out our duties to the best of our abilities and helping our customers into the bargain. When it comes to the level of management I have encountered this seems not to be the case. It appears that their raison d'etre is to cover their own ar**s, drop other managers, posties, anyone in the s**t whilst generally licking ar**'s of anyone above them. However, our DOM is a reasonable guy and fair, but he seems to have swallowed some of the dream pills from above and believes most of the big lie. Unfortunately, as he is a fair and reasonable man, I do not hold out much hope that we will retain him in our office, or that his future looks bright in RM unless he changes. Most of our relief DOM's are the standard "failed postie", disliked by one and all, no good as a postie and totally unfit to wear the uniform. These people, in my opinion, were steered down the management route by their own frustrated DOM's just as an easy route to get them out of their hair and enable them to gain posties who could actually do the job. Since these people have attained the heady heights of management they appear to have some kind of false memory syndrome reminding them of how good they were when they were the fastest most efficient posties to ever have drawn breath and treat us all as though we had been trained by them personally to act in their own actual image. ie, lazy, slow, inaccurate and with a tendency to go sick for no apparent reason. Royal Mail gets the management it deserves on the whole.

Great post. I have similar background. I do enjoy job as postie but it can be so frustrating watching what could be a great Company being destroyed by sub standard management !

DOMs etc need to realise that a lot of posties have had previous employment involving more complex activities than they are involved in. (hope that makes sense lol). I think a lot believe that because you are a postie now you are thick ! Far from it !
