I made the same thread last year, it's embarassing for us isnt it, I can't help but feeling guilty when deliverying because I know they must suspect that it was me and not the fking casuals royal mail employ without doing any background checks.

It doesn't help that a lot of people don't seal up the flaps properly, other letters get jammed into the gaps and rip the envelope. Machines do the same to them as well, it's not only thieves that rip card envelopes.

Having said that there's a guy from my office currently doing 9 months for thieving cards from all our walks, so unfortunately these scumbags do exist within RM (and are bound to when you take any cross section of 100,000 people from anywhere)

I think we all hate it.

I always get my line manager to endorse them and I put them in a damaged bag. If I happen to see the recipient when I’m delivering them, I explain what’s happened and apologise.

This doesn’t make it any easier though, I still come away feeling sullied and, because it has happened while in Royal Mail’s care, in some way partly responsible.

Casuals, TBT? Maybe.

I don't get why people would want to do this.

I mean, buy your own christmas cards! They're not that expensive, and you don't have to tippex out whatever's already written in them.

A lot of the time i believe the damage is from machines. The card flap often isn't sealed properly, certainly not as well as normal letters, or has weak glue and comes open. I had a b'day card like this once hanging open but the money was inside so no tampering. Also most people send money in b'day cards not x'mas don't they? So Xmas cards are the least likely to be tampered with I'd say and there are so many in the system which is why we naturally see some damaged???

The razor cut ones are certainly mail centre thieves though.

How in hell do people get the time or opportunity to do this?? Last time I went to an MC it had CCTV everywhere

My own thoughts on this are that 99.99% of Christmas cards contain nothing more than "Happy Xmas Maude, Love Timmy and Shirley". It just beggars belief that people are risking the sack and a Criminal record for stealing THAT!

It doesnt help that the Xmas card envelopes are cheap sh*te with the barest amount of gum to seal them, no wonder they get torn open.
I did a week at an mc not long ago and it was in a rented warehouse with little security. The bosses were finding empty packets that once contained mobile phones stuck in toilet cisterns and behind radiators.

yesterday a postie said lost at this, it was a xmas card placed in 3 envelopes to deter thiefs but all 3 envelopes had been sliced open. wtf. do rm have a xmas policy of letting these pr**s in at xmas as long as they clear the mail & they can keep some of the content?
