WIND CHILL, how cold ????

Ive worked in some cold conditions over the past 20 years including once when my hair froze in freezing fog but this current wind chill of about -7 deg c is something else. I just could not get warm today and my face was stinging all the way round in the cold wind. When i did get back inside it felt like my face was on fire

I remember it was -22'C up here about 10 years ago.
You had to hit every letter box first to free it up and then deliver the mail.

Coldest we got last year was -18 I took a photo on my phone.To be honest after it gets past -10 you don't notice the difference.Its bad with snow aswell at the mo,oh the joys of living in the hills.

Just walk faster. It isn't rocket science.
If you do your round at a brisk trot, temperatures of -20 shouldn't be a problem.

Not been good today has it? In response to "walking faster is the answer", try delivering in a market town in the Chiltern Hills, where if you are not going up a hill / steps covered in ice, you are about to descend the same. Seriously, be careful wherever you are. Everyone envies us in the spring / summer, but not so much now eh?

I've done my fair share of walking up and down Marlow/Amersham Hill and Sawpit Hill (Holmer Green)was my first post round as a xmas casual.
"Walk faster" was just me being facetious.

My walk is very hilly so your either going up or down drives for 2/3 of it. I ve worked in colder weather but normally its been much calmer but that stiff north wind really got into me today.

Coldest I known was January 1982 at RAF Brize Norton, Oxfordshire when they recorded -27% Not quite as much snow but your eyelashes and eyebrows froze up within seconds of hitting the outside and it was a job to catch your breathe. Misses was pregnant at the time expecting our first. Poor little sod wouldn,t come out it was so cold, ended up having it a few weeks late.

The one day that burns in my memory is what I call the Wet Wednesday! It;s the only time in 16 years myself and some workmates had to break off and go home to get changed. It was in MAY! If you can imagine putting on all you clothes then lying in a freezing bath of cold water before starting your round, it was a bit like that! Battering sleet, gale force winds .ankle deep in water. My boots were actually getting sucked off my feet! And I was frozen!!!

I remember those 2 winters of 81 and 82 they were bloody awful I was in basic in 81 and they cancelled an exercise because of the temperature and conditions.

Dispite the snow that fell today that wind has dropped (thank god) and it was much more bearable

Brize...brings back memories.I was there inJan 82.I remember being on op black top at the time.Sheer Hell.Not the worst I've had though.Falklands in 95.Heatwave here,worst winter in 100 yrs there.Walking back to the accomodation in -37 degrees c with windchill factor.Felt like somebody was stabbing me all over my face it was soo perishing.Hang about,maybe somebody was as the army were there too.
