p739ing packets without even attempting delivery

walked into the D.O. to start my shift at 14:30 and saw the boys in to do Gips p739ing packets that havent even been attempted. Gips didnt arrive so someone thot "get them to p739 the packets so we dont have to try to deliver them". wtf. Is this even allowed?

I know one of the driver's does it all the time in his van if he doesnt like the name or if its raining but this is was taking it to a whole new level.

Deffanetly NOT ALLOWED! Wouldn't do it even if it was.

If a manager told me to do that ( to cover his back against non-delivery ), I'd demand for that instruction in writing ( to cover my back against wilful delay ) the whole thing goes aginst the grain....and who do you think would get coded first, and who stands a real chance of getting sacked?

Anyone who does this should be sacked,its what we're paid to do, deliver mail (packets especially cos its the one thing the customers pleased to see, as apposed to the mountainous junk they usually get).

Before I joined RM I used to moan about this sort of thing. I assumed it was the postman just being lazy. If management are in on it to massage the figures then it's little wonder we're in so much trouble.

One postman was sacked from our DO for something similar.

Well what about this instance which happened today.We had a foot of snow and there were specials for places the van could not get,but the walkman could.so we p739 the specials then scan as innaccesable.All specials then up at post office to be collected the same day.Makes sense to me.Prob would be exceptional circumstances.

No! That would have been 28 years, 1 pouch, 2 packets and finisihed for 8.30.........

I still think that full time release people should have a time span on holding post and returned to normal duties for a minimum of 2 years..............otherwise the union will never move on ..................it will be a succession of yesterdays men voted into office with the same vested interests they have now.

Delivery was attempted and then the walkers went out with the cards for those that the driver had attempted and left cards so the residents knew that we had attempted delivery. Not hard was it.

Maybe we should have a separate address inaccessible/severe weather "your parcel is available for collection from your local D.O." card rather than using the p739.
Save on customer confusion and posties being called lazy.

See your point ft, unfortunately our callers office is the topic of front page in the local press for customers having to wait in sub zero temp for more than an hour to collect their parcel/packet...................we are drowning in em................just today we had over 370 tracked parcels.
