When I moved from p/t postie to p/t driver the former cwu rep mentioned that he was able to get a f/t driver position ahead of others with more years service than him because he had driver seniority ie he was a driver of some sort rather than a postie.
Was he right and does this rule still hold?
If he was correct would this put a p/t driver (of a couple years in job) ahead of others including reserve drivers who have been in the job 15+ years?
Seems a bit unfair to me.

Seniority is based purely on length of service within RM - not how long you have been performing a specific role

thats a load of f###### rubbish there is only one seniority list now done on service there did you to be someting called driving seniorty but that was a long time a go

There used to be seperate seniority lists for special or semi-special duties like driving, Branch Offices, Bookroom,
mech, etc, but these were all ended by the Way Forward Agreement 2000, and all duties should now be signed for
on the general office seniority.

Shocking for your rep to pull this stunt to get a driving duty ,he is aware of how seniority works.
Due to his conduct contact your branch and report him.
Its stunts like this that give reps a bad name and reps who abuse there position need to be flushed out.

My Bad. A wee bit of misunderstanding...
What i meant to say was that the former rep (he stopped being a rep b4 i started 4 years ago) said he had got the f/t drivers duty ahead of others on driver seniority but this was a long long time ago...probably when dinosaurs roamed the earth. We were just chatting away during the break (drivers get breaks
) & he was telling me one of his stories of life in RM. He never said driver seniority was still in existence, only that was how he got the job ahead of others.
From the above post its been made clear the only seniority that exists is time incarcerated in RM. I now know i am bottom of the food chain.
The former rep actually keeps the current rep in check & makes him do some work sometimes. The current rep is the rep cos no-one else wanted it & i'll been told by the long term prisoners that he only applied to get out of doing work.

I will sign for a driving duty on our next resign and expect to sign in my seniority which will be in front of 4 out of 6 of our current crop,so it looks like the junior driver will be knocked off unless he is recieving driving allowance and is covered under pay protection or something.
