Lesser of two evils:CSS machines

Next year our office is starting its revision ,so we will be starting about 7 and finishing at 3 mon - sat.Also we are getting the mail sorting machines and there are about 8 jobs on nights to work on these machines.What I want to know is ,has any postman gone from doing a new revised duty to working nights on the css machines and was it a good move or do you regret it .As far as I can see they both have only 1 plus point each.For nights its the extra money and for days its the fact your not doing nights.

walk sorting machines went to senior men, it was pointless going for an interview, if your seniority was low.
also on a sat, you get both sequenced and coded mail.
the rest of the week, the majority of the mail will be sequenced, which is great if you have to prep walks that you are not familiar with.

Are they happy doing nights or peed off with it

i did nights for 5 years was the worst shift i have ever worked in royal mail. was allways tired and had no energy at all allso lost what day it was because you go in at monday say 2220 and finshed tuesday at 0620 and back in that night would not go back to that

There are a few posts on here where H&S has gone out of the window with the CSS operators,and in places it seems it's a nightmare,but that may not be the case everywhere.

So can anyone who is now on css machines say it was a good decision or do you regret it .

I made the jump, before the changes, and when alls weighed up, i prefer the nights. I seem to have far more spare time, days off etc. I havent got a nutter expecting unrealistic workloads. Working in a large office, and seeing the complete incompetence of managers has been the biggest eye-opener.
There have been H&S issues, of which the union have frankly been atrocious at keeping on top of. But we`ve found that just doing the job `properly` and `as trained`, they (Royal Mail) cant really do much, and it seems to have settled into a reasonable job.

Thanks for your view.Thats what I thought ,If you do the job properly and safetly,they cant make you go any faster.just like it is on walking delivery now.if you dont take car and have breaks etc etc .Plus i guess the extra money is handy.
