Van sharing?? Rights n wrongs
We were all giving trolleys in 13 div n 7 div in Belfast, for van sharing also linked to health and safety I believe yet there's guys getting out of their vans and using pouch bags over their shoulders like the old days... Are they breaking the rules and should the guys doing the job properly report these guys to the management???
I will tell u why!!
I do the job properly, get out of the van set up my trolley and away I go, however the other guy covering me on my day off uses a bag... So he's obviously faster as he's taking short cuts and not pulling a trolley along.... Then the manager says, how come such and such is able to complete much more than you and your the regular man!!!
These people r scum

If it was me and the lino was giving me grief I would tell him that your cover uses a pouch, pure and simple. Your cover isn't giving a toss about you, all he's interested in is an early finish, so why should you cover his back?

They know people are using bags, and actively encourage it if it means less handbacks.

From BT2010...Phase 5
Implementation of the revision, there will probably be a planned date for the implementation of the revision however, it is essential that this is agreed with you, and it is “do-able”. Prior to implementation of a revision, reps must ensure that the revision is compliant to all health and safety standards and signed off / confirmed as such by the WSR/ASR and that all equipment for the revision such as trolley’s, vans will be in place for the commencement of the revision. All training requirements should also be in place prior to the revision going “live” and that everyone is aware that all equipment aligned to the delivery must be used.
Once assigned the use of equipment specified for the route will be mandatory

Depending on how big the loops are, i would take a bag over my shoulder, this would consist of one bundle in my hand a bundle in my bag and probably a few packets. Anything more of what i've mentioned i would use the trolley, because the whole idea of the new revision is to take the weight off your shoulder by using the tools that are given to you.
If it takes you a bit longer than so and so then let it be, do the job properly and remember work your contracted hours, no one can force you to do over time, especially royal mail.

Is an agreement not being adhered to
From what I have seen fault lies with both sides over this, members are being told to use trolleys by union.
Pressure is being put on people for cutting off so they use bags to complete.
Knowing they will be pretty much alone if conducted for Performance.

Screwing around yes...and several were caught sitting in a cafe when they should have been back for ASAP but purely on performance once they have completed their 6 months......never.
I think that may be about to change.

Well I have always had doubts about the one size fits all solution. Because RM has expended money on it's modernisation plan, CDVs, HCTs, LCTs then it's s**t or bust. Instead of using the common sense approach and having the use of cycles and more especially drop boxes.
It seems to me that having weight off the shoulder is a good thing BUT if you limit the weight to 11kgs and sufficient drop boxes to maintain that then that is an acceptable weight.
It is true that the system was abused in the past by overloading pouches and I have to admit to that abuse by carrying 25//6/7 kilos of mail in the interests of finishing early.
The use of a trolley is a folly in certain circumstances. I believe that the rules will have to be relaxed if the revisions are going to work.

B&H is reaching a whole new level in offices going through revisions.
And I fear the union are clueless & powerless to stop it.

All this crap about taking the weight off peoples backs. I've always used a bike and thats where the weight stays, on the bike. The only pouch I carry over my shoulder has a few packets in it, simples.
Trust RM (and CWU) to mess up whats worked for 100 years!

I agree 100%, some common sense has to be used here.dvbuk55 wrote:Well I have always had doubts about the one size fits all solution. Some of our loops are less than 20 mins and would be 2 bundles most days - forcing us to use the trolley for that would be ridiculous. If it's a couple of bundles then use a pouch, if it starts getting 10kg+ then use the trolleys.
Anyone pulling a trolley around with 1 pouch and 2 bundles in it because 'thats what we're supposed to do' is brain dead.

Great in theory but you should know what happens next.OnAFlyer wrote: If it's a couple of bundles then use a pouch, if it starts getting 10kg+ then use the trolleys.
If it's 3 bundles and 12kg....well..
Then it's 6 and 16kg......well..
If your loops are too short they should be re-aligned officially.
If your delivery is unsuitable for trolleys it should be re-assessed officially.
If you leave it to the numbnuts they will be throwing half the duty on their back before the week is out and then the poor bugger who comes onto the shift behind them will be getting grief because he can't complete the duty unless he throws it all on his back.
Common sense....give me strength.
