No deliveries today

thanks to snow and stupid health and safety
we were not allowed to go out on delivery today (sat)
so we prepped,and prepped chatted and some went out with spl and tracked items,so how is it too dangerous to delivery and yet spl and tracked go out?
sorry but
soft as shite !
so monday (if it dont snow) we will be like mules extra bags as trollys cant be used horrendous
still i will work to time and bollocks them

If people go out in snow, they come on here and complain that RM don't care about H&S etc.
If they don't go out, they complain H&S regs are too strict. (Oh how David Cameron would love them)

Yeah today delivering was a absolute a disgrace, lol, i think the problem is that they expect people to carry the same mail etc at the same required speed 40mph, oh wait without falling in the snow.
In the EH (Edinburgh and maybe elsewhere), RM sent out a be careful letter.... what a lot of ****. Absolute disgrace. R.I.P Royal Mail.

Seriously, if it can be done, our office go out and do it, but there comes a point where it would just be foolhardy! A few years ago, when we had a few bad days, hardly any mail was getting through, but they sent us out with the miniscule amount we had, in the most atrocious weather conditions!

Its not even so much the fresh snow which can be the main problem its when it freezes and builds a layer of ice underneath. Then they say "its not snowed today so out you go out", but you can hardly stand up for packed ice

Accident(s) on (edit:) duty. Today at our place we were told it wasn't happening. Some people questioned the decision but in my opinion, the right call was made. We had about four inches of snow overnight and conditions, whilst not quite treacherous, were certainly hazardous. Simply walking was exhausting with the extra effort required. Had we gone out on delivery, with the bags on our shoulder and so many things to concern ourselves with, someone would have stood a good chance of getting hurt. Personally, I feel that the chance of one person getting (seriously) injured is bad enough and that it was right not to send people out. Especially when you consider the logistical nightmare of getting bags out in the snow, of ferrying people out to their rounds and getting them back again. I was surprised actually to discover as I left the office that conditions were getting worse. The snow had melted in small pockets leaving behind a kind of slush which itself hid a more dangerous crust of ice overlaying the pavement. It would have been highly likely that a number of postmen would have slipped - maybe one would have broken something. Probably not but not worth the risk. I myself slipped over a few times on the way home and was glad at that point that the correct call was made.

Snow also causes problems with the CDVs.You can't use the side roads,especially if they're uphill,so you park as near as poss then walk backwards and forwards with bags.

You should think yourself lucky you have a manager that actually cares about your H&S!!!!!!!!! In 11 years our office has had 1 day not out on delivery. I can't believe some people moaning about not going out on delivery??? If Cameron and his lib-dem lapdogs get their way all H&S regulations will be lifted and maybe then you'll think otherwise about moaning when you're laying in a hospital bed!

ah - spikys - question is though, are they suitable for tenement flat deliveries when you're not supposed to wear them indoors? so say if I fall over indoors whilst wearing them, I'm at fault, outdoors if not wearing them, I'm at fault, taking the time to take them on and off between tenement flat = approx an 8 hour delivery - what then?

I don't argue that they are really good, I just wonder the logic in providing them to a tenemented area other than to ultimately place accountability of AOD's on the postperson for not using correct equipment. Speaking of which, I still haven't got new shoes - 8 months after ordering
