Union rep/manager

Has anyone seen their reps watching over their members to see if they are preping fast enough?? If the answer to this question is no. Then come down to Belfast

A casual observation to confirm that eveyone is working at a good speed so as to defend them when/if mamangers get arsey is fine.

Anything else is straying across the border into management land.

So imagine there are 10 000 letters and 4 people to sort them. 2 500 each approximately. Except one who thinks it is OK to let his colleagues do all the sorting. So 3 people are now sorting 3 300 each while one knobend gets himself a cup of coffee. goes for a s**t, has a chat to someone about the football, goes to talk to the DOM about his o/t, chats to someone on the phone.
But yeah the rep should be defending the interests of the workers - the 3 that are having to do all the work.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

But in that situation the other 3 need to go to the rep and start an official complaint about unfair treatment or best of all have a word with the slacker. The rep may need to gather evidence and that would be OK, but with the Op in a jokey way inviting people to see it happening it sounds as though, rather than a one-off or rare occasion, it's happening all the time.

However, I also have to add a caveat that as we are not actually present everything is supposition, and with what happened over the NI No 1 Branch that I doubt we will ever get the full picture, there is bad feeling over there which unfortunately RMC cannot do anything about, and we try to keep clear off.

There was similar in our office this morning... our Rep was checking to see so that management wouldn't have a case if they tried a "they're working too slowly so as to bugger up the revision".

Is there anyone out there ,who can help us sort this situation out with N.I no 1 branch.
Its really got out of control in belfast with power hungry union reps ,sh1ting on there so called members from a great hight!
most of the members would of left the union, but for fear of the rep who is so friendly with bosses ,we fear he would tell them.

very easy if there is a problem. If you think the rep is up the manager's arse then stand yourself.

or do what we did when our rep tried to take the p***

we put the word out and union members went and told the rep if this happens we go to the area rep and anyone else we have to then we get you removed

then suddenly the problem went away

they will not get in again

Members are far too comfortable at my D.O being on the sidelines moaning, groaning and bitching to even consider putting themselves forward for rep.

That's the problem in most offices but the fact is that a lot of people do misunderstand the "relationship" between the rep and the manager. I was a rep and you do have to work with the managers and very often you can be accused of being up the manager's arse particularly if you tell the troops something they don't want to hear. Having said that, if the rep is clearly not doing the job then it has to be sorted- I can't understand any office that will sit and moan from the sidelines while their office is attacked like this.

Apathy...lekker and a whole social move away from the "stand together, fall together" ideology.
It's every man for themselves now and although it's not entirely their fault the "local agreements-winners and losers" mentality of HQ hasn't helped.
The key to any unions strength...even unions with a small membership base is communication and organisation...need i say anymore.
