Payroll giving

Post by Chopstix »

Does anyone know which way to set up a regular donation to a charity?
Do you just ring wages and set it up,or is there a form to be filled out with deduction amounts /details etc. to be filled in?
I am sure it will be on here somewhere, but been a knackered postie ,i cant be arsed to look. :Very Happy

In our office a nice looking lady came round a few years ago asking people to donate a quid a week to sick kiddies, she then took them aside and filled out a form. Obviously I said no. ;liar

I donate £1 a week to the RSPCA because being a postman has destroyed my senses of empathy and sympathy towards humans.

You are all so charitable, offering to give your bank details to me, :Very Happy .

I always think that if you do start to donate, then it ends up 'in the wrong hands',or going to something you dont agree with, you'll never know.

Why go through RM with this, remember RM receive awards through the charity commision for this.

Giving to charity is off your back, so go through the chosen charity yourself, set it up yourself.
Phone/contact the charity direct & set it up that way plus they can claim the tax back on any donation.

Sod RM and do it yourself...................

I imagine the difference by doing it via payroll is that the deduction is made *before* tax etc so it actually costs you less than the amount you give.

Yes that's right plus charities would rather you donate through payroll giving as there is less cost involved for them in terms of trying to claim the tax back. We all tick that box for gift aid but did you know that the majority of gift aid isn't actually reclaimed. The cost involved in reclaiming gift aid on a £2 donation just isn't worth it.

Yes, that's why I use the payroll giving. I didn't realise that the costs were as bad as that though! I was working on the assumption that it cost a quid or so, per transaction, to reclaim the Tax. But even a few pence. Multiplied by thousands of donations, makes a big difference. So I didn't look into it properly.

Sadly, I don't know how to set it up, without the regular (every year or two) visits by someone looking for volunteers to sign up for it. All I can suggest, is to try phoning Payroll, and asking someone there.
