Christmas Jobs...

Hello---I had applied for a Christmas job at Royal mail on 1st Oct 10 but have not heard anything at all. My friend applied same day as me and he hasent heard anything either. I have been applying for the last two years (as early as Sept) but they never call me for interview. I wonder why this is? Can anyone help?

RM started advertising the Xmas casual jobs in the last week of September.
My nephew applied on the second day and was told vcancies were filled.
They get more than 100 applicants for every job.
Try looking at the websites of hotels,supermarkets and chain stores like ASDA, Tesco, M&S, Sainsburys, etc
as they all take on extra staff over the Xmas period.

Did you have a document checking / interview? Normally they will do that with you even if they have filled the vacancies that way they have spares incase people drop out. I had a interview for a unrelated indoor sorting job couple months back which i have also not heard anything back from. Think its handled by the same dept as west midlands so maybe there are problems at that office?

Whenever I'm having a bad day or the Council decide they have way too much money and decide to post to a local magazine to EVERY door I remember this sort of thing and think it might be a crappy day but there are 100's out there that would do this job at he drop of a hat. Its still a crappy day but makes me feel a BIT better.

I might have got that wrong. I was thinking of an article in the Courier where I think it said
that RM gets about 100,000(?) applications for around 10,000(?) Xmas casual jobs. Can't remember the exact figures,
but that would be about 10 applicants for each vacancy.

So far this year at least 15 people have asked me about a job at RM.... I get the feeling that its a pay packet their looking for rather than a job if that makes sense?

Yes it seems to be mainly people like students who just want a temp job over their term break
for a bit of extra money to help with their student debt.
Not many unemployed people would be interested as it would be too much hassle getting their
benefits reinstated after Xmas.
A few years ago we would get more unemployed applying, hoping to be kept on permanently after Xmas,
but that hasn't happened for the last 6-7 years, as RM cuts jobs.
