How many letters per box?

After the last few weeks/months of crap - still no extra prep time for D2Ds, packets getting bigger (they don't use the size frame), still on Summer plan (all 30hr P/Ts called up to sort IPS for anything up to 30mins unpaid) and going over by 40 minutes on Thursday, I'd had enough when I came in Saturday (on my time unlike the majority of the office) to find over 3 boxes of mech for my delivery. Everyone was pissed off by the amount of mail, and moaning to each other, and a few asked if they were paying OT - to which the answer was obviously 'no'.
I got stuck in and cleared my mech in about 50 minutes leaving me 20 minutes to prep the manual letters (over another box worth, 60+ flats and 60+ packets) and knew by then I'd definitely not get finished on my time so decided to see the LM. Told him I wouldn't get finished on time and asked for OT, he said to see the DOM.
Go see the DOM and he said he can't pay excess (they've rarely paid it ever since the flexibility agreement - arguing that when finish early we don't do extra work) so I tell him I'm cutting off (a dirty word in this office and others had been threatened with a wilful delay charge if they did this) and he tells me to see the LM.
Back to the LM, tell him I'm not willing to go over again this week for nothing so I'll be cutting off. He then says he'll sort out some OT for me.

Later he approaches me to say he'll run the figures through the IWT and work out how much prep I would have needed for that day which has now got me worried. I know that some of the mech came in later the day before (will that be included?) and he said it'll be a percentage of the whole offices mail (this also has me worried because I know my PT duty has less mail than some FT duties).

Am I going to get shafted by this IWT?

Once he's finished running the figures through IWT what exactly does he intend to do with them?
The whole process is meaningless and designed to pressure you into not booking O/T.
This is blatant harassment and should be reported to your rep who in turn should push it further.
It is a simple situation...if your LM comes back with some bollox about IWT and not booking O/T just smile at him and tell him from now on you won't be doing any and don't be pressured by any nonsense about wilful delay.

Everybody in the business works to a different standard because everyone is different.
The only agreed performance tests for indoor work are the 1 minute tests and these should only be used in exceptional circumstances.
There are NO agreed tests for outdoor performance.
Do the job you're asked to do...do it to the best of YOUR ability...YOU ARE BULLETPROOF.

I'm sorry I just don't understand these sorts of posts.... your being walked all over BECAUSE your allowing them to do it. If you willingly do unpaid overtime why the hell should they pay you for it ??? Remember him not paying you means he gets a bigger bonus!

The managers in my office a while ago tried to do this.... people cut off and brought it back.... next day with the previous days cut off mail it made even more work so cut off again.... after 4 days and mail piling up they paid O/T to clear it all and we never had any problem getting paid for our O/T. On lighter days I'm sure that by working to 'rules' i.e. come in on time, take your breaks, sort to the spec etc should take you closer to your time. Also once you've finished on a light day is there any work that they could offer you?

I used to (not any more though!) come back on a light Tuesday at say 12.30 and offer to do more work to take me to time but there wasn't any so went home.... it came in useful if manager tried the above.

Sorry wanted to stress that this kinda works both ways its important that you give 100%. I know a number of people who 'go slow' in order to claim extended... which is not on in my view! We treat them fairly we expect to be treated fairly in return!

Believe me, I know what you're saying, but it's really hard to be the only in a big office to actually try sticking to the rules when the rest come in early and/or literally run around.

Well I'm off this week but just got my payslip and guess what? no OT.

Unless it'll go on next weeks I've been conned into going over or they decided there wasn't excess mail (which they damn well knew there was).
