DOM's Revision Proposal

From a new rep looking for an experienced one.

My DOM has backed down from his original savings plan (after "randomly" testing my duty at 15mins over it's time), now he has just asked me to lodge a disagreement with this plan, saying we cant absorb a full duty but will look at absorbing all the sh*t of the day, what we call a 'conveyance duty'. The guys tell me we can't, we need to actually make it up to a PT driving duty.

I take it I don't just fire in this disagreement? :crazy:

I've been told from branch that I have to ask for his proposal in writing. Obv this is what I'm going to do.

I was just wondering what you guys think. If the gaffer comes to me with a proposal, do I always ask for it in writing? I'm not a naturally confident guy, he knows it, and I get the feeling he is extracting the michael.

I am not a rep but I would always say insist on proposals and agreements in writing as a matter of course. If there is ever a question or disagreement over what was in the proposal then your position will always be stronger if you have it in writing. Also when you are writing the disagreement it will better and hopefully have stronger arguments because you have the actual proposal in front of you and then can de-construct it more easily than from memory alone.

If you ever have to ask yourself - "Should I get that in writing" you answer in life should always be YES not just about work.

allways get it in writing that way your covered but chance are if he wants it there some thing in it for them if in doubt say no can allwys say yes another day. :confused

Marston if you're ever unsure of stuff tell you DOM you'll get back to him,never make a big decision without contacting your ADR.
Also we're here to help out as well.

He wants you to redgister a disagreement with his plan :hmmmm is that right? :confused

Sounds like your DOM doesn't think the absorbing he's being asked for will work, but he would like to use you as a proxy to refuse his boss.

Correct, he wants me to lodge disagreement. You're probably right about him using me as a proxy.

It's a relief him telling me he's not going to chase up absorbing a full duty, but I don't want it saying on paper that I think we can still absorb something, when the members tell me we can't. I suppose I'll find out in the morning how this one is going to pan out.

The area reps are kept updated with the situation so I shouldn't go too far wrong, I just think sometimes the DOM plays on the fact I'm not too experienced, and tries to baffle me with nonsense, hoping I'll bite.
