Were not telling you

Driver from M/C arrives at our D/O Monday DOM asks what's left at the M/C driver informs him 4 yorkies of packets that will now arrive the following day.

Driver arrives Tuesday DOM asks what's left up at M/C driver informs him that hes no longer allowed to tell him anything. Dom rings M/C they also refused to disclose what if anything is left at M/C. Why they do this im unsure as the DOM can check on his PC ,my point is this going on nationwide M/Cs refusing to disclose any over spill of mail that hasn't been delivered to D/Os on due date or is it just in the north west. Me thinks R/M now dont want the union to have a clear count of mail and are hell bent on cooking the books.

One last question to ask we have been told that from now on we are no longer allowed to leave parcels/packets with neighbour and we must bring all F/S items back to the D/O. The blatant stupidity of this move is clear by just looking at our 739s that still have on them "we have left your item with your designated neighbour".

Now this may be me being stupid but is this not a step backwards for R/M as they are always banging on about our competitors as these days most other courier companies are more than happy to leave parcels/packets with neighbours.

This company is now run by muppets that don't have a clue what there left hands doing to there right were is there stupidity going to end.

We were told the same thing a couple of weeks ago. Since then, there have been three days out of the last 10 where I've had a full pouch of p739'd packets that have had to go back. :arrrghhh

If you have not had written consent off the customer you should not be leaving packets anywhere, leave a card and do the job properly. :nana

Cant believe ive being doing the job for 14 years now i certainty don't need to be told how to suck eggs buddy.

Written consent from a customer is something im not familiar with and have never heard that one before ,but would that not be unrealistic as the DOM would need a very large filing cabinet for all the written consent forms from residents my area there's 30,000 + res so imagine unrealistic.

What you have done is missed the point i was making .

The point being "you are aware of what is actually printed on a 739 with regards to the wordings".

It has always been customary to leave with a neighbour if the occupant is out WHY do you think there is a section for this practice. Now due to a change by R/M this is now not an acceptable practice BUT is still on our 739s ,also its taking R/M a step backwards on fighting off competition as many customers in our area have commented to postmen they will now use the service of our competitors as they will leave it with a neighbour LIKE we used to do and will pay the extra charge.

Plus it was a question i was asking as ive not seen or heard of other areas doing this so i put it out there simples.

So the angle your coming from DO THE JOB PROPERLY is to imply i do not which beggars belief as you don't know me from Adam.

Im not after a barny mate but a little explanation to that comment would be appreciated.

RM and common sense just dont go together do they.

We were told at a WTL session ~10 weeks back that the "safe places" and "designated neighbours" have to be sent by letter to our depot, otherwise failed deliveries go back. Informal verbal arrangements or notes on the door are to be ignored.

Makes a lot of sense from a security point of view, if I leave a customer's parcel behind the bin or with next door neighbour, its now not my neck on the line if something goes wrong... I'm simply following an official request by the customer. Royal Mail can then refuse to get involved with compensation claims, if a postie has followed the official wishes of the customer.

What about the legalities?
If I wrote a letter to the Dom giving permission to use my blue bin to leave parcels. The postman does this and
when I go to get it out of the blue bin I find it is not there.
I tell Amazon that I havent received it who get in touch with RM
Amazon get back to me telling me that It is my fault for writing the letter.
I tell them Im not paying for something I havent received.
Who wins?

If enough of these situations happen then Amazon will inform RM to take back to DO if no answer.

Perhaps that is what has happened and RM's customers are now saying 'Do Not Leave' under any circumstance.
The time has come to stop turning the other cheek, time to stop shaking our heads in bitter dismay, time to stop mumbling our angry words.
The time has come for union.

Asked DOM today about the written consent and was told this is the case but R/M have turned a blind eye over many decades.

So it just goes to show you learn something new everyday, its still a big balls up which does give the others a slight edge over us.

Having done the same walk for 10 years theres no way i would return a packet to a the d.o unless absolutely neccesary, I have a lot of people who i know and trust and i wouldn't want to upset them just before christmas...some are good tippers. Obviously if your new to a walk then it isnt worth taking chances.

I'm okay with leaving the odd parcel with a neighbour if I've been asked, but there's no way I'd apply this to Recordeds and Specials like some posties are prepared to. Personally, if I err even slightly, it goes back to the D.O. My walk isn't far from the D.O. and I don't see why it's such a hassle to take a stroll or a drive down there to retrieve a parcel - at least that way it's in a safe place. I don't know about anybody else but I prefer my postman, on the rare occasions that nobody is home, to take it back to the D.O., where at least I can be sure it's safe. Even though I have good relations with my neighbours, I don't think it's right that they should be my go-between for parcels, and I wouldn't like to see what happened if one of their kids saw a parcel in the porch and decided to mess around with it, resulting in something getting broken and relations between myself and one of my neighbours becoming less than cordial.

Personally, I would advise everybody to take utmost care and do the job as instructed. Apologise to neighbours for having to be rude, but the fact of the matter is that it's in the hands of god the moment you leave something with a neighbour as opposed to the intended recipient. And if something were to happen, the friendly relationship may well frost over quickly. For the sake of a Christmas tip or two, is it really worth it? Only if you're good friends with some of the people on your round, I would say.

I strongly agree with posts saying," Docket it and take it back to the office." Nowadays the DIMs are looking for any excuse to sack people (saves redundancy payments). :no no Makes me laugh when you cover someone else's duty, Docket all the packets, and then the postie complains to you that his customers are pissed off because he normaly leaves it with their Mum.. Neighbour...Auntie.. Corner Shop..etc. etc.

I also love being lectured, the day before I cover his duty, about not upsetting his customers by walking on their grass... leaving their gate open...make sure you do this...don't do that. "I don't want you mucking my Christmas Tips up!" :arrrghhh

Strange I thought we all worked for the same company 52 weeks of the year, not just kissing ass for a Christmas Tip. :mad

I wonder what allowance is made for return of packets etc in workload. My round encompasses several new estates with young families, that hit the computer every day and with chrissy coming on, I now have to leave failed packets etc in lock up boxes and collect at end of round, and then cart back to the DO, write out a control sheet which van driver takes to local post office following day with failures, as well as sticking a docket on the packets to say a P739 has been issued. I doubt for one minute that this is covered by time allowed to pouch off etc.
