Advice needed on family friendly working

Hello there im after some advice on the flexible working and family
friendly working

basically at the moment i am a floater so i know my days off in advance under
the new 4 day week our office is going ahead with i will drop back to a reserve
ive been told i wont know my day off until a week before like the reserves at
the moment

the problem is my wife is a part time self employed hair dresser who needs to
know what im working in order to book clients in she cant do this if i dont know
1 week before

problem 2 i have 1 daughter and 1 arriving in january again making it so i need
to know what im doing to arrange child care etc

is there any stipulations that can help my case , ive asked my manger hes doesnt seem to care,
im only 1 of a few workers who have young kids most dont have any

any advice would be great

RM being Family Friendly is a thing of the past now m8..

Family friendly only applies if it suits RM - which it doesn't. I've tried before to start early but was given the excuse that the mail isn't there earlier (although we are all allowed in early until christmas because of the revision and large mail volumes ... go figure!)

I'm sure you'll get a similar response. Best bet is to see the person who does the duties, they can usually give you preference for days off, especially if you take the unpopular ones (i.e. I prefer to work saturday so I don't have to pay childcare)

2010 and Beyond:

Family friendly duties and attendance patterns including religious holidays and requirements for time off will also form part of local discussions at the weekly resourcing meetings and during the revisions process.

Since they are 'local' you will need to see your Rep about it at the earliest convenience in order that they can ascertain whether the unit can accomodate you.

unfortunatly they do not have to offer this to you but if you write to your manager he has to tell you why you can not have it if nothing else it will make him sweat a bit to work out why he can not give you it

thats harsh is thats how they work, only get help if your childs got a disability,

i will write a letter to my manager see what happens, the bigger picture what Royal fail to see or indeed dont care ,
if my wife cant book clients (hairdresser ) because she doesnt know what im working then she wont earn money which means we cant pay the bills which means we cant pay the morgage

i know its extreme but it could happen

Ask your DUM for a 'family/flexability working' pack and application form or phone HR services on 0845 6060603 and ask them for the pack. This appication has to be logged with HR services.
It's basicly for children under 7 years old and forms a variation within your contract to allow a flexable working or a fixed day off.

This application forms a legal document so your DUM cannot get out of it through silly excuses.

Phone HR Services for the pack etc.

I recieved a family friendly pack and my office at the time acommodated me on family friendly hours, BUT this was 10yrs agao and I am sure things have changed but legally 7yr old still stands and I am sure they are going to increase it via parliment but not 100per cent sure

From April 2009 the right to request flexible working was extended to parents of children aged 16 and under(18 and under where the child is disabled).
