What is the national agreement for sorting items per minute?

For ages my manager's been saying its 25 items a minute, but he accepts 20 items and so far only two people have passed that. Ive heard from someone today that its only 15

If you're talking about prep It's 25 per minute into an empty RM2000 frame...and it only lasts...1 minute.

Last did the test around 2 years ago and most people in my office passed it easily. What can they do if you fail.... retrain... test... fail err repeat!

I'm talking about all that mail you have that day.

I had 1000 items,it took me 51 minutes to sort and averaged at 19.6 items. According to him I failed.

There is no AGREED test for that garbage.....tell him to do one.

I see this is quite a common thing . For the minute test I got 33 items in my frame.

Do bears s**t in woods? Do politicians lie? Is the pope a Nazi? Is Rupert Murdoch the Anti-Christ? etc, etc One thing to note is managers get bonuses for saving OPG hours in the office...if RM set up a bonus scheme of 10p in the pound for every management hr saved, just watch the dust fly as they try to stab each other in the back ( what a happy thought )

I had a feeling thats why my manager has all of a sudden turned into a slave driver, he's money motivated.

I will speak up about this tomorrow but he will hit me with the usual bullshit "I don't care what goes on in other offices" He does care when it suits him tho.

I'm not a member of the CWU and the rep is not trustworthy, who can I speak to if the manager tries to bullshit his way out of this?

Also one of my work colleagues was tested out on the street yesterday by the CWU rep, is that allowed?

Spoke to the manager today during the 5 minute brief and here are some of the things he said.

* Its Royal Mail that made the 20 items a minute rule.

* The 1 minute test where you're frame has to be empty is not true.

*He has the right to do a full prep test.

*If I think the full prep test is harassment I can go ahead a fill out a grievance form.


If he asks me on Friday to do another full prep test am I allowed to refuse it?

Don't bang him straight away with a grievence about the full prep test....just ask him to show you the agreement where the CWU has agreed to the full prep test, but until he does, suggest he sticks with the 1 minute test as agreed under SDD ( IIRC - if I'm wrong will someone correct me ). On the 1 minute test, the frame does not have to be empty ( that would mean one manager could only test one postie a day ), but some discreation should be applied, and if he does just before you finish & the frame is ready to explode, he souldn't use a poor result as a stick to beat you with.

In short, he is right on the 2nd thing only - still one out of four is good for a DOM, but ask him to show you the agreement where he can test your full prep ( and make sure you have a witness when you say it, a colleague you can trust to back you up if you need them ).

Rememeber its LETTERS in the frame whilst being test and not flats, which one lino did a while back at our place

But whatever you do, do NOT attempt to boot them in the plums....a blue shirt is not all a manager loses when he's promoted.
