Improve your tax code

Right a few years ago I wrote a letter to the tax man as advised by one of my fellow workers. I expect many people have not done this so give it a shot. Fill out the letter as below, filling in the spaces with your details and post it off. It increased my personal tax allowance by around £100, not a great deal but every little helps. My apologies if this has been submitted here before

As a Member of the Communication Workers Union, Part of my weekly subscriptions go towards the provision of a death grant which is currently £563.00. I have been advised by my union that I am entitled to tax relief of £8.00per annum against this part of my subscriptions [this amount may now be higher than £8.00] following an agreement between my union and the Inland Revenue Technical Division, in December 1981, reference: T1/6/NJW84.


I have also been advised by my union that I am entitled to claim £90.00 per year for job expenses against the cleaning of my Royal Mail Group uniform [this amount may now be higher than £90].


I would therefore be grateful if you would make arrangements to adjust my tax code to take into account the above, together with any backdated rebate that may be applicable; I joined the Royal Mail group on ___________


Please can you advise me in due course concerning this request.

Sorry didnt see that post. I did this a few years ago... at least this may give people an idea of what to write!

I done the same thing a few years ago Judgee. I think the Rep handed out photocopies so we just had to fill in the details and post of to Glasgow. I never got a rebate though they just changed my tax code for a while and then changed it again when the backdated rebate was finished.
