light duties due to torn shoulder tendon

where i work i work as a postwoman i have been suffering for nearly a whole year what was thought to be frozen shoulder to be told in july this yaer its a torn tendon i had aday off in july then it took 3 managers to refer me to atos which they wrote to the to suggest half walk or light duties went to my union rep who said i could not go out on delivery and must be indoors or go off sick i have been indoors since sept but this new absorbing what coming in there was a meeting between union us and managers i was not there but i was told by 2 collegues that the office does not want light duty workers and basically they will be shown the door i have been going in since september throwing 2 walks out doing ops and ips missorts and then generally tidy round does anyone know how i stand as i have a new fit note from doctor to say light duties until op which may be december or jan depending also i am diabetic and i have been told to put this down on or ring disability of royal mail can someone please email as i dont want to lose my job

allyou can do is get the doctor to sign you off till your better as as long as you go in to work they will try and send you out on a walk.they never take any notice of atos.

they have not tried to get me on awalk as yet but its the absobing thing and when i heard someone say managers dont want no one on light duties can union still fight this has been said after i was on light duties i have a fit note to take in to wor ktommorrow is it wise to ask union tommorrow as it was union wanted me on indoor work

Of course managers don't want people on light duties as it affects their budgets - however what they want and what they get are usually different. Yes your rep can fight it, but he will need your support as well.

AFAIK they can't get rid of you if your willing to work, there is work available and the injury/condition is treatable. A torn tendon whilst painful is treatable and I don't think, unless there are complications, they can Ill Health Retire (IHR) you for that on its own.

Diabetes - my father and brother have that weirdly both types (as in type 1 for one and type 2 for t'other) - and this is a condition recognised by DDA so speak to ATOS and your H&S rep so that you can inform the manager. TBH even if they don't have to make any changes to your duties because of the Diabetes it is in your own interest in case you have an "episode" at work.

According to my GP RM don't take a lot of notice of the Fit Notes hence I was signed off. Her words were

'If they are taking no notice of their own Occupational Health they are not going to take any notice of what I've got to say.'
