Should you blindly deliver all and sundry to the address ... or "kill off" at source - cus I guess a good majority of 'em WILL find their way back to your frame in the end ...

When the redirection runs out then you start to deliver the mail as addressed, if the mail comes back then you kill it off. You don't know what has happened and maybe people have moved back into a house so it's better to just follow the rules.

I agree...one colleague that was on her usual round found out that a woman moved away some where as the place was being rented out. Some new resident moved in for six months and said the person previous does not stay here any longer...six months later she came back to rent out the same property only to find out that her mail was being killed off.

yup,o my old duty i had a guy who travelled with work and rented his flat
so when the redi ended it meant he was back for a few months
then i would get another redi in

Its her own fault for not putting a redi in,isnt it?Technically shes moved out.Kill off when they come back as rts,if they ever do.

Exactly.
We have the rules and we should follow them. If we follow them and something happens, eg ID fraud, missed appointments etc, then it cannot be 'our' fault, it is the fault of either the sender or the addressee. If we break the rules it will be our fault when something goes wrong, and we won't be able to prove it wasn't.

Watch out for the minks though, I started getting mail back from an address with 'not at this address' scrawled on it so started chalking it all up until my manager oen day said they were moaning about missing mail. Obviously they were just refusing final demands etc, trying to pick and choose. From then on I put everything through. Had half a mind to write on one of the refused bills that they were lying and actually did stay there!

when i get a 'new' load of RTS back
i photcopy a few and keep em in the tray of my frame
then if the above happens ,i can show why

Definition of common sense is to use good judgement, to deliver a bit of rubbish to a house at the end of a humongous drive to a person that doesn't live there is not very sensible. But hey, be one of the few to do it by the book.

Usually in conduct meetings with there bottom lip stuck out stammering...but,but,but....
Or occasionally crying into their pint on giro day.
Anyone with any common sense wouldn't risk their job to save themselves a 2 minute walk to a door.
That is a no-brainer.

I have met many people who are so scared of there own shadow that they do everything to the letter, In our normal lives do we travel in our cars at precisely the speed limit in fear of the law or return to the supermarket when we realise we havent been charged the correct price for an item. Of course not. We display an element of common sense. Its no different at work, conduct coded for returning an ace catalogue for someone who has long since departed this earth, i think not!! The only time mere trifles become an issue is for those amongst us who do not display commonsense and overstep the mark in other areas and then it will become an issue at any conduct meeting but only because the linos will be gunning for you for other reasons. By all means, wait for the chimes of big ben before you go for break but as for the majority lets carry on using commonsense and for gods man up and get a perspective on thjings
