Just like to say hi to everyone,
started as a OPG """""""" November, first day at"""""" Centre 2mo. Have a 25 hour/wk contract but do 9am-3pm with Tue and Sunday off....... :hmmmm how does that work as breaks are paid. So either they have misprinted the contract or they expect me to work for free for 5 hours :left:

Heard and looked through a lot of stories here, but any idea as a new starter if I will have any chance(depending on walk) of finishing on time?? Or shall I tell the mrs to arrange a bus home after her work at 4pm and leave the little one crying at nursery?

I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

hi mate....welcome to royal mail
tell the manager the time you finish and why you need to finish at that time (childcare)if you go over on your round you can book overtime, if you want it or cut off (taking mail back to office).your first few times on the round you should be with a coach so you will finish on time. your breaks are paid so make sure you take them. dont come in early.
Another point to remeber when it comes to managers stand your ground.

thanks 4 replies!! 1st day, 2 hours o/t but that's the one and only time :d'oh! had to do some of the walk on my own before I had actually been shown how to do a walk.....all I did was a few specials and tracked items with another colleague, wait in the centre for 1hr 30mins whilst they were dropping off other posties/drop offs etc then do some residentials on my own and attempted to do Central 6 which is a retail park-FAIL :no no would've took me hours to do that as didn't know where shops were and post wasn't sorted in any type of order.....Did get repeated apologies from management and to be fair they do seem approachable etc

Any chance of a 'normal' day 2mo???? :crazy:

guessed right!! especially with a 2 1/2 year old boy and mrs who thinks i'm a taxi driver in my spare time!!

Serious note though....hardly anyone in our centre actually finished on their contracted finish time, usually 30-60mins o/t. I dn't mind helping out when 'I' can but as I have to pick up my little 1 from nursery and also if I do too many hours my tax credits will be f*cked up to put it bluntly.(All mentioned in interview etc) But I seem to get the impression that cutting off it frowned upon even if you have ran around your walk. If I had a full time contract and no probation I would happily tell them to shove it and that i'm only doing my contracted hours....but pretty sure even if I word it different and stress that I must be 20miles away 1hour after my 3.00pm finish 4 out of my 5 days and also get my little 1(untill my partner passes and gets her car :pray test in 2 weeks) I will get the usual "well if u want your job I advise to to finish ur walk" sort of thing.

Also, it seems when i'm asking 4 a lift back to Del Centre when i've finished my walk, that they think i'm asking for a pay rise.....I refuse to get a bus/2 buses to Del Centre, 1. I don't know area/bus routes and 2. I don't believe in spending my own money for work purposes and 3. I will not use my own car for walks


Other than that it seems like a good job :Very Happy


Also, I now know why the average postie hates D2D's!!!
