Staffing levels

We were 5 walks down in our office yesterday,we only have 31 duties in the office.The manager tried to enforce lapsing but got short thrift.Do these people not see that to just employ a few staff would partialy solve the problem.Why are they so stubborn about not employing anyone.Guy in our office came up with a good comment,"WHO WANTS A 24 HOUR CONTRACT THESE DAYS".He has a point,people want full time employment well most anyway.I fear there is something very bad going on behind the scenes and it worries me that were not being told.You wont get me im part of the union.

We had some 0 hour contracts in our office. They did'nt last long what with being messed about or managers getting the hump with them for booking till 4pm everyday.
Why would anyone go for a job with zero hours, must be bloody mad. You may aswell work for an agency and have a different job every week.

Would you not think they could get a few off the dole in part time to do lapsing cause they already paying them with benefits that add up to more than a part time wage its daft killing us lot and so many claiming dole that might want a go at postman and ease the load off us lot a bit.

You must be joking. The long term dole scroungers I deliver to are still in their dressing gowns/pajamas when I turn up around 1pm to deliver their umpteenth parcel of the week (It's a hard life on the buroo, no disposable income to speak of).

I know what your saying mate but that system already exists in the form of 24 hour contracts and the like...I should know as I have got one. Strange as it may seem my motivation for being a postman was not career progression but the need to avoid further job centre humiliation (12 year old behind the desk asking you how your job search is going every two weeks etc !) Had I allowed this situation to continue I realise now I would soon be picking up litter for nowt (not posting it through peoples doors ) .
Also the benefits thing is a myth if you are a normal sane honest individual who has worked all his life you get jack while the professional non workers coin it with the added bonus of not getting asked stupid questions for some reason !

RM know this very well and realise that in the current job market they can attract good quality individuals even on part time contracts and of course give them overtime as and when required...Saves on full time wages,,the work gets done,,,Simples
