How often should a reserve get a long weekend or even just the occasional sat off ? seems unfair that by floating around duties you never get this.

I think its meant to be once every six weeks..........I managed to get one in 3 years

A floater is someone who has their own duty. They do this by covering the day off for 5 duties in a week. Every week it is the same 5 duties and the floaters day off rolls along the days of the week every week. This means that every 6 weeks it will be their long weekend.
A Reserve is someone who gets shafted regularly by being put on different duties to cover sick or A/L.
They SHOULD have the same rights as anyone else in the office regarding long weekends but in reality this very rarely happens.
Anyone that is a reserve should keep a note of their days off over a period of time and then present it to the management
to show how unfairly long weekends are applied to a reserve.

As i've said many times,get a list of reserves,keep an eye on what days they have off,when a Sat comes up see the list and who hasn't had one in a while so they jump the que.

Nice idea Postman but when the recruitment freeze has left you 6 walks down every Saturday. no Saturdays come up and no-one jumps any queue.

Have just managed to secure 3 Saturdays off in a row, quite by accident, and very rare even to have 1 never mind 3 in a row as I'm always off on a Monday.

Noticed the manager was in a good mood, so asked him for the Sat before my holiday off, he agreed He then asked me to cover PHG on my day off in exchange for a Saturday off and the 3rd week is my holiday

Gonna get a wee picture made up of 3 in a row, just to prove it happened

I hardly ever got one when I was a reserve, I had to virtually beg the dom to get one, but then again I preferred Friday's cos they were easier than Saturday's.

That will vary from office to office,area to area...
But i'm talking about run of the mill ofices who have perhaps not had all that.
It's lazy reps and seniors who don't give a f**k which is the big problem here.

We have been having this row this past week and our ADR basically told the ADM to get his a***e down to our delivery office and sort it out as some have not had a sat off for a year,

Basically it is able to be done as my previous office done it for reserves and that was yrs agao I think Managers are just to lazy to work it out

Kind of...in the new agreement.

Royal Mail and CWU commit to achieving at least 1 in 4 Saturdays off for the majority of employees (including reserves) during the roll out of the operational transformation programme

It is your absolute right to have one in six as long weekends.

I spend nearly all of my time as a reserve; so get shifted around all the time. I always get my long weekends on schedule.

What I do suggest though is that you remind the DOM or Lino at least a week or so before when you have a long weekend due. They tend to forget.

Also; if it suits you then be flexible ; but the overiding six week schedule never changes
