If everyone refused to drive on P & L surely that means RM would have to drop it. As far as I am aware my contract says nothing about having to drive so why dont we all just refuse to drive vans?

Am I right in thinking that you have to "pass" a "Changeover Assessment" first before you can drive ?? Not had (or even been offered) one yet, so ...

Because not everyone will refuse.
Because some people will get better duties by driving than they currently hold/cover.
Because the solidarity of "everyone" just doesn't exist in a DO.
Because delaying the implementation of a revision is against the spirit of 2010 and Beyond, so there will be no union backing for any such refusenik campaign.

Mine stated 'occassional driving' and several people have been dismissed because they couldn't drive from the time I joined.

I passed a drivers assessment with royal mail so as i could drive not just the small vans but the high tops.

Now maybe a silly question but i haven't had any training or assessment on changing a tyre. It may not be silly because changing a tyre is all to do with health and safety...so where does one stand with all of this.

To be honest i dont think your allowed to change a tyre, whenever one of our vans has a flat the driver has to wait anything up to 3hrs for the garage to come and change it.

If it's in the depot or reasonably close by there are a couple of blokes designated to change the tyre BUT as far as I recall they have to be taken to the garage as soon as practicable to have it checked...................................I suppose like all things as soon as.........is up for interpretation as I don't believe a specific was mentioned.

Mine is from 23 yrs ago, so probably no driving requirement :D, this was at a time when everybody was queuing to drive and has to pass a medical and take a written test then assessment only IF you got the nod from the DOM, I drove for a bit hated it, went back on delivery, went on 600 driving was ok for a bit soon got bored of it, now back on delivery again its not all its cracked up to be, especially with the downfalls they don't tell you about, anything you do as a driver is YOUR responsibility, Managers will hassle you to go the next minute before you even done a van check, expect you back and say "right you got 20 more minutes take this lot out", when you are supposed use that time to park up and log off.

Your be responsible for servicing and motting your own van aswell, so be warned. So you may wanna bribe the kids on the weekend with a few quid to wash an wax the f****r as your responsible for that aswell. Not all bad though, think of the stamps xmas time eh.
