Partner in hospital! taking time off! Need advice!!

Hi didnt know where to post this but hope someone may see it and be able to help. My partner has been admitted to hospital tonight. she had bad stomach pains since birth of our duaghter six months ago. she has been told it is galstones and will ned to be operated on. needless to say she'll be out of commision for a while and ill need to be home to look after baby and her while she recovers. I have worked for royal mail nearly 2 years and would be entitled to sick pay but I'M not sick. will i get paid if I take this time off? has anyone experience of something similar ? is this what is classed as special leave? is it paid ? really cant afford to go without money so any help would greatly appreciated.

You'll not get paid special leave. It'll be annual leave or unpaid, go sick with the stress of the situation.

Full Pay after 12 months..Totally agree with previous post.. Go sick with stress caused by your situation...

Just go sick as in previous posts. My son had a serious accident and was refused unpaid or special leave. I got a straight not a chance, not my problem. Needless to say went sick with stress. Mind you my Dom is a grade A f@@kwit

a postie at my office was signed off by his doctor with stress when his wife was in hospital.............he did have to travel more than 230 miles to see her from wales to london

RM do make things needlessly difficult, a little bit of common sense would go a long way. Work with people and people will normally work with you.

As your wife was admitted in an emergency, you can get immediate leave to cope with that. then as you have a child under the age of five, you can apply for paternal (as opposed to paternity leave) -you can take up to thirteen weeks, to allow you to look after the welfare of the baby. Employers do not have to pay for this, but if you are on a low income, you can claim for income support during this period. good luck.
