Our section in the North East goes Live in 2 weeks. My line manager came to me and told me i would have to drive, or he would move me to another delivery.....

Can you explain more please.
What did you sign for,are you a driver anyway or someone who just uses their car,what has your rep said,so much to be explained.
I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

i use to be a driver came off it, been walking for 5 years, I can stay walking but not on my duty. if i drive , i can stay on the duty and take van and parttimer out.

They seem desparate for anyone with a driving licence, I had barely walked through the door of the office after a week off before i was told by a lino that he had booked the van assessment for me...for the next day! The thing that annoys me is that the guy i'm paired with is able to drive, but not willing, and has kept quiet about it to the managers. He can't drive the vans "legally" without an assessment beforehand, so i will have to do it every day. It would be nice to be the passenger for a few days of the week. You're probably in the same boat as me, forced to drive because others with a licence are conveniently "banned" or simply haven't got one...but only when the manager asks them.

He doesn't need to keep quiet about it...if he doesn't want to drive,wasn't employed as a driver and hasn't taken the assessment.....then no one can make him drive....and why should they?

Your right, it's his choice to drive or not, he chose not to. The reason why i agreed to is because my seniority is low, and if i didn't i would have inevitably been dealt all the scraps and leftovers that nobody else wanted. He had the luxury of high seniority and could pick whatever walks he wanted regardless. It would be nice if he agreed to drive to share the burden a little now that the walks and duty holders are finalised.

The only way to get yourself off driving is to either

1, Get yourself banned
2,Crash so many times that they take you off
3, Withdraw your licence ( refusing to show it, "lost it" "sent it back to DVLA")

I know which I would chose ;)

Number 1 - only takes a trip to the doctors complaining that you have blacked out and hey presto - instant medical ban :Very Happy (which will be overturned when they find nothing wrong but RM wont).
