How royal mail rips you off with Door to Doors

Checking out the prices for Door to Doors in my area using this website:

I've worked out that Royal Mail charges around £20 for delivering 1 set of door to doors for my walk. (under 20grams, <25k items)
I usually get 5 lots of Doors to Doors per week. So Royal Mail charge £100 for all 5. I get £15 for delivering all 5 of them.
So Royal Mail get £85 profit from sorting out the contracts. That is just organising them, and distributing them to local offices, not printing or delivering them to doors.
So I get only 15% for doing what is arguably the hardest part of the work, and Royal Mail gets the rest.

No wonder they were so keen on pushing through these door to door changes. They must be laughing all the way to the bank!

Oh and they get even more money if the door to doors are above 20 grams, and we get nothing extra.

No one gets paid any money extra for delivering them, you don't get 15quid for delivering them, they are now part of work load

I'm no fan of the D2D "arrangements"...but lets be realistic...you don't get paid a fiver to deliver a special either.

i was told about two years ago that our d.o. could survive off the budget of d2d alone, no mail or anything. And that was when there were but three!

Whilst I see where you are coming from and to be honest I sympathise and agree we have to be honest with ourselves. Ok if we were the only ones involved in D2Ds and included the Delivery Supplement as part of the cost then RM would be making a massive profit on each and every one.

However there are hidden costs.

Administration of contracts.
Selling/Agreeing the contracts
Transportation from the customer (or collection point) to bundling centre
Costs of the Bundling Centre - Including wages
Transportation to the MC/DO.
Return of undelivered or excess items to customer.

.......... and all of this is based on a contract being perfectly delivered to spec - if not the costs increase more.

We're told they need 5/week to break even on D2D.

They were only supposed to be part of the workload after revision, so if you go over now you should book I think 15 mins a day for Prep if your walk hasn't had the 15% reduction

When we were getting paid the grand total of 1.6p for them I was talking to one business owner who had enquired to RM about delivering dr2drs for him and he was quoted 12p each!

Which funnily enough is 1.6/12 = 13.3 %, very close the the figure of 15% in the first post.

About 10 years ago, my son worked in a newsagents. The shop was given a generous amount for inserting the same fliers in to the newspapers that we delivered. Depending on the paper, it could be 4pence per item, rising to 7 pence, and that was then. Yes we are being ripped off!
