I work at a delivery office set for revision "going live" in the new year. A list of walks has been put up and i noticed a very cushy delivery that would take about 2 hours, i then noticed it was already signed for and listed as a CWU walk. I asked management and got the " dont know what the f*!ks going on" look. A few days later after pushing each manager one got back and told me that it was a reduced walk for the CWU rep so that they had union work time incorperated into a delivery and that it was the national agreement.
My Questions are but 2
Is there a rep out there who can tell me if this is true? and
To those having undergone revision. Is this happening in your office?

Well done Daz for resisting this nonsense.
This kind of bollox does the union no favours at all...i can already see the "my rep's a crook" posts.
Are you seriously telling me a rep needs release EVERY day FFS?...and what is wrong with reduced INDOOR workload?
As i've said before if a rep can't negotiate sufficient release time they are f**k all use to your office anyway.

In advance. Thanks
I understand it's in the agreement and about time! the amount of work a rep has to do is increasing all the time, but having said that the reduction in the length of duty or indoor work should reflect the size of office. Also whoever the rep is should sign for his own duty but pick up the reps duty while holding the position after all the reps position should be up for sighning every year

Well if you can spin this....
Royal Mail will support the CWU by providing an appropriate level of agreed release and facilities to allow accredited representatives to carry out their roles and support effective industrial relations
And this...
Appropriate release will be given to allow CWU reps to fulfil their role in the process and consult with members.
Into less outdoor work for yourself then good luck....but you wouldn't last 2 minutes as a rep in my office.
We don't play the "rep's duty" game in our office...it only encourages the wrong type of rep....and we don't need any more of those in this union.

We recently had a meeting with a Divisional rep who insisted this was the right way to go.
There wasn't a rep in the room who agreed with him. It is just bollox.
Wouldn't it be better for the rep to hold a reserves role, so he has to do every f***ing walk he has signed off as achievable?
And Fishtank is right - if your rep can't even negotiate his/her own release time they are f**k all use to the office anyway.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.
Are those above now so out of touch that they thought this would be a goer?

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been. My BFF Clash The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Maybe they thought it would keep them in check...make them toe the line....more to lose just like them etc, etc.
I don't know a single rep that would go for this...they're a decent bunch thankfully.

Are you the rep in question, to move you so much
Not the rep in queation and havn't posted in a while, but just feeling the strain of this revision and all it includes , i work in a fairly big unit and get some ad hoc release but not enough and i do more and more in my own time. The question i suppose is should it be that way!

The new agreement states you should get all the release you need or you don't play ball.
So,when the revision is done and it has bed in,would you and the other reps who/if they take the duties give them back?

I beg to differ if I sign off my revision it will be because the members in my D.O have given a mandate to do so through a democratic ballot and not because I think everything is hunky dory and achievable. My opinion is neither here nor there, RML/CWU big wigs have got what they want which is a set of proposals based on IWT and attendance patterns so now its is up to the membership to decide if they want implementation/sign off. If the ballot result is different my personal opinion so what?
I didnt become a rep to throw away 19 years on seniority, its hard enough as it is to get memebrs to get active in the CWU taking away their senority in order to become a rep would make it even harder.
Every ballot has yes votes and no votes at my D.O sometimes the ayes have it sometimes the nayes have it.
