FFS........What are you worrying about...?????...You have got x amount of time in one working day, so just come in on time , work normal, do the job how it should be done.As for the d2d...well the more you have the less time you have to complete your delivery. As for the dom from hell...he is only human , just like you and me, if you have a case that you cant complete your duty , then fair enough he cant do a thing about it...If he starts giving you grief then put a grievence in....and make sure you see it through...above all, DONT LET THE BASTARDS GRIND YOU DOWN...

Good points, but if someone on holiday in the USA is thinking about work and how shat it is having to go back, so much so that he/she posts it on a forum it really shows how crap this job has really become, such a shame, was a really good job in the past.

Thanks, Obviously your right, its just that it used to be the case where everyone worked together if management wanted to implement something they'd talk to the Union Rep and they'd come up with something that everybody agreed to NOW with the 'too soft' manager gone/removed its like "your doing this"... don't like it "go on strike then!" The union guy is like "what can I do? I don't like it but the Union has agreed to it!"

Lots of new things that are being implemented are just plain crazy for our office. Its only being done because a senior, senior manager who's sat in some ivory tower somewhere and probably never done delivery in his/her life thinks its a good idea. Good example is that every walk within a mile of the office will be REQUIRED to use a trolley for some walks its going to make the job a lot harder for no benefit to anyone including RM and make the mail a whole lot less safe. manager shrugs and says "those are the rules... tough!"

What a person can do in a day is also coming under increased scrutiny... I along with others have been threatened with a "You cut off and that a performance issue!" i.e. conduct code. Even the work-time coach has been threatened with losing that position even when it was plainly obvious that there was too much work... council had put out their monthly magazine to every door.

One of the scariest things now is that if you make a GENUINE mistake i.e. miss a letter tucked into the bottom of your bag and come back to the office (or worse the next morning) its definitely a "sacking offence". I'm increasingly hearing of people with long service histories i.e. 20+ yrs being sacked for things that a few years ago would have been a word in the ear "don't do it again." RM seem to want to get rid of people by doing this sort of thing.... strangely Managers still seem to 'hide' mail when it suits them i.e mis-sorts that were mis-sorted from the mis-sort run and not pulled out before we go out because a casual was doing the walk or it was on overtime and not yet fully thrown off.

You used to take the ups and downs of the jobs and get on with it.... everyone was in the same boat you supported each other through the good and bad.... now its "am I going to have a job next year?" Are they going to use the smallest genuine mistake to get rid of me? are they going to make my job so miserable (and they can!) that I end up feeling that I have no alternative but to leave? Having to 'fight' with a manager day in day out soon wears you down. Bottom line... I have a mortgage and bills (like everyone) I just want to come in do my job and go home. We're in the middle of a recession getting another job is just about impossible. The thought of not having a job is just too scary to think about!

Crazy... here I am with beautiful weather a warm outdoor pool and drinks and all I can think about is the sick to the pit of my stomach feeling of having to deal with going back to work on Monday!

So what you are saying is that , you are going to" assume the position and take it"? you cant just roll over and give up..You cant let bullying managers walk all over you, i appreciate what you are saying about the jobs market, but hey, you just cant give in to them.I do speak from experience, i have had 12 months of s**t, but i stood my ground and i am still here to tell the tale, unlike some feckinn useless doms.So grow some and good luck....

Indy--we all get that sinking feeling! I swear I deflate like a baloon every morning, just as I reach the hallowed door! There is of course the option of looking for something else, easier said than done, but not impossible.As another pster said, just work your hours, and ignore the rest.

As for things changing? That's the way life is. I think we all know that most of the changes, not just in RM but in the world of late, are generally for the worse. You can't walk out your door any more and just mind your own business.

Thanks for the support guys I guess that I'm feeling a bit sorry for myself.... partly due no doubt having spent 2 weeks on the other side of the world in the sun drinking by the pool etc!

Can I ask.... obviously each office is different but do people feel that us blue shirts aren't as together as we used to be? I've noticed over maybe the last couple of years a mounting number of incidents where a postie has shafted another postie. Classic example would be a council mailout to all addresses. You get 2 days to do it. The first day is your rest day and so the rest day cover or the person covering the walk should take out half BUT you get back to find they've only taken like 10%? Managers says 'nothing to do with me but it all goes out today'. Postie shrugs and walks away. I've seen and confronted people who 'hide' these bundles in other peoples work so it looks like they've done their bit but next day you've got people coming up to you with 'mis-sorted' bundles! The other one is the split on overtime..... more and more posties here will try and get one over if they think the other postie doesn't know the walk i.e. they do 30% other one does 70%.

I know that this sort of thing has ALWAYS happened but it seems to me to be almost daily now even posties that used to be quite decent :(

Most of the changes your worried about have already happened in my office we have had people off sick with stress, good postmen with years of experience leave.The trick is just do as your told, only do it by the book after a few week it becomes normal.The bonus is you might start to enjoy the job again. Throw the D2Ds out first, have a 40 min break before you go out, and dont go over your hours. RM want to make it a job, not a duty. Well treat it like a job. You start at 6 you finish at 2 and you dont take it home! Good luck mate.
