Doorstepping Courier ...

... got to one house on Monday to find a large parcel on the doorstep (no-one in natch !) - had a good look at the label but was unable to work out which thieving bunch were responsible ... so I scribbled on it "Please note it was not your postman who left this here ..." or words to that effect - assuming they'd be home in the evening. Tuesday - it rained a lot and when I got to same house the parcel was STILL THERE - but a mite damp (!) - so I lobbed it into their blue recyling bin - assuming they'd be away for a few days (it IS half-term week). Found phone number of house as well and have rung several times to no avail. Wednesday - still no-one in. Thursday - my day off. Still no joy on the phone. See what tomorrow brings ...

Please advise what level of Xmas tip I should receive, having "gone that extra mile"

It's usually the people that you do lots for that give you absolutely feck all at xmas! My best tips seem to come from the people that recieve less than half a dozen letters the entire year!

I know a fellow who works for mail order firm who thought he was doing the customer a favour by putting a card through her door to tell her that he had put her package in her blue bin unknown to him that she was on holidays and her neighbour put her bin out for collection talk about the grief he got from his manager so no more good turns from him.

Friday Update .... SUCCESS !! They came back @ lunchtime today - I knocked on, explained the full SP - still slightly damp parcel now with customer - DHL, TNT, UPS or whoever officially "off the hook"

Didn't broach the subject of Xmas tips mind ....

Looking at another thread you could say "I got away with it - even though it was not an RM c*ck-up" - but it's nice to come home with a little "warm feeling in the heart" though - maybe this IS how it used to be twelvety years ago ... when people at all levels actually ... cared ... and had the time to ... care ...

I spent all of last year going the extra mile for one customer, closing gate, being polite and going through the porch door and posting the mail through the letterbox on the inner door which was on the bottom of the door! Come Christmas I get feck all but she gives the bin men £20 right in front of me... I now leave her gate open and throw the mail in the porch letterbox.

Love it when some repair bloke or whoever, people they only ever see once get loaded with cups of coffee, have long chats with, not realizing they are paying for their time to drink the coffee.

These "customers" see their Postie almost every day, expect to have a chat with them, be a helping hand etc and never get offered even a cup of water in the blazing summer (ha!) heating!

There's nowt as queer as folk.

I'd have just left it there. Nothing to do with you/RM. You didn't deliver it - so why worry about some other company?
