Electing a new rep ?

The office decides Jimmy.
If the office would rather have no rep than a crap rep then that's for you guys to decide.
In my opinion it would be better to find a decent candidate and give him/her all the support you can.

how do you get rid of the bad rep ?

You have a vote of no confidence. Get as many UNION MEMBERS to sign it as possible and send it to your Branch.
Send a copy to Wimbledon as well because your Branch will probably ignore you.
They are then supposed to call a meeting where the rep can defend himself - they don't like a coup d'etat.
Then you have another vote.
Don't expect your Branch to help much and they certainly won't like it.

There are no decent candidates Fish, bar me, and I dont have the time nor the inclination, at this point in my life.

Why don't you get a group of members together to share the work and the responsibility.
One of you can take on the rep's role just to keep your office "in the loop"...but you help each other out.
You can even have elections to the group to keep things democratic in your office and stop the bitching.
The structure of how you protect your office is not carved in stone Jimmy.

Just been elected through a vote at our DO, was two candidates, we both submitted election statements and the office voted, I was elected and the other candidate is sub rep.

I would think that any rep is better then no one.Do think that a commitee would be a good idea we are thinking of doing in that are office it better then one person trying to do everthing on there own.

What was suggested to me at a training course was having a few reliable people to discuss ideas with and pass information to everyone on shop floor, a committee with a spokesperson rep. As to sharing the work, if it suited your office then I can't see why it would be a problem.

No. A bad rep is worse than no rep. If you have no rep then the Area rep has to take on the job. It makes day to day s**t very difficult to deal with but no big stuff gets in with secret deals. (In theory)
Committees are a fine idea but there is a thin line between committee and clique.
It might be better to have a rep no-one likes. And he doesn't like anyone in the office.

A female rep is a very rare but wonderful thing. There should be more of you.

Thank you, I have realised there are not many, but see my previous post, times are difficult at the moment. Small steps though

Jimmy,

You should have put your name down when the list went up. Now you look like someone who is only bothered to get involved for the pleasure of chasing a weaker individual away to Belgium, rather than someone who is motivated by a genuine desire to help their workmates get decent treatment. FFS, be careful with your new, disabled rep.

the problem with having no rep is that your area rep wont give a monkeys about your problems most of the time and will sort his own stuff first

My branch dosent do votes where there is only one canidate, that said Im gonna tell it like it is to the mbrs come Jan 2011 and make it clear that its time to put up or shut up. They want a genius who can over turn just about every national agreement going and ensure the D.O stays in its own little cocoon shut off from the realities of the wider RML/CWU world.

The latest idea is from the rep when I joined in 91, (quit as rep in 2001) the start of the decade of shite) he thinks I can and should stop M3 coming in on a Saturday.

If the had the skills to do what some members want I would be seeking nomination for DGS(P) not local rep.
