Wasting our time.
We are in the second week of our new indoor revision which clearly isn't working. We have figures based on the 'computer says' adage of a 85% BSI rate which equals a 111 hours cut from our indoor work to supposedly get us all up to speed. It's obvious this is based on a perfect day scenario, a day of full attendance where everyone knows all the double prepping and inward sorting and possibly a tuesdays mail volume :) Anyway, we have long term sick as well as daily absences to contend with, there hasnt been a training budget for ages so no one with less experience learns any of the sorting and we all leave the office up to an hour later than before...but we are all expected to complete our already heavy duties in the same time, wtf?!
There has been numerous break offs and for the first time ever walks and parcel routes were not covered down 'ere so using my position as local rep I have stated the blatantly obvious to the dom who simply shrugged his shoulders and walked away! I am preparing a lengthy letter of complaint which details the fracical running of the office but I can't help thinking I'm wasting my time. How can you run a business with a skeleton staff and not provide training for duties with little or no cover?
During the last meeting with the area manager I was told there will be no compromise because the union have agrred to the software used to calculate said changes...so there you go.
Oh yes, before I breathe out again, people still come in early! :)

It's the same in all offices even before they have put a revision in,the figures that have come off ours is as funny as f**k they have come up with some classics,my advice would be have a laugh at it,do the best you can if the DOM just shrugs his shoulders then there is a good chance he dont care anyway and is being told from above to just slash the hours back they have to save money.

Same in our office .. doms + linos are not interested one bit in what actually would work .. your topic headline sums everything up sadly .Ogg wrote:We are in the second week of our new indoor revision which clearly isn't working. Re: Wasting our time.
Sad truth is its all about the savings not about the welfare of the staff. A doms perseption of an office as it has to work like clockwork, no absences, no cutting off, no overtime and ker-ching its bonus time. In the real world this does not happen and maybe one dom out there understands where i am coming from.
Geo route is a rubbish tool and it will never be accurate...the cwu even said its not accurate but theres still plans on using the software. If you want to plan a revision in any given office you need the knowledge of postmen that know the areas like the back of their hand, but the problem being is that RM don't trust us with the input that we are giving them as supposedly we're not trusted enough. Well i don't trust geo route with the information that is being thrown out.
As for posties that run around their walk, let them continue to do it, you might get finished quicker by letting them do twice as much work than yourself. I just wish posties would understand that job & finish has past, but people still believe its still here.

What has Georoute and BSI got to do with people coming in early?sareknees wrote:Will never ever understand why people come in early![]()

Nothing.
Performance standards are being brought in now because for years the job was a toss off, and a lot of people still treat it like that. Maybe if everyone had just gotten on with the job at a decent pace there would be no need for a Georoute program or a BSI (bullsh*t index!)
There's no point blaming early starters for what's happening now because they've got nothing to do with it. Offices full of strollers are getting the exact same programs and cr*p that offices full of runners are, just read this forum!
It's more to do with the tossers up top making the books like nice in preperation for privatisation. Loads of staff gone, new machines, new methods, nice profit and hey presto RM is worth a few bob.

Oh I don't know. Perhaps it'd be a good idea to come in on time for a good few weeks while the new system is bedding in, just to see if it can and will work?

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Re: Wasting our time.
Its always been the same, they will throw what appears to be unachieveable walks and sorting standards at us but the flyers and early starters will cut everyone elses throat by still getting done- they will never learn, for the rest of us who do the job properly we get the harrasment and bullying from the dims until we conform to the tear ar*e twats.

The second part I still don't see. Georoute is based on walking speeds agreed between RM and the CWU isn't it? The rest is set amount of times for flats/paths etc etc, I don't see what actual differing walk speeds have to do with it unless any offices are getting walks that are based on a runner, in which case they've been turned over because that's not how it should be done.
Admittedly I don't know much about BSI, other than 100% is unachievable, but there were always going to be some sort of performance standards coming in. Let's be honest there are plenty of people in every office that make doing nothing into an art form, and happily leave all the work to others. So IMO they're just as responsible, if not more, than the ones who rush to get out as quickly as possible.

Yeah if an office is cream crackered you must be retarded to go in early just to get finished on time. (well you would be regardless of whether the office is crap or not)

Apparently BSI for an office is affected directly by people coming in early as the work they do, prepping the sequenced mail is counted as though they started on time. So if they prepped say 300 before 6am and then 300 after up to 0615 and the BSI was aimed at doing 450 before 0615 then this units BSI would stand at 125% therefore making the office seem more efficient than it really is. This would mean to the bean counters that there was more scope for cuts because the office is more efficient so either more work can be done by the same people,or the same work by less.
At least thats the way I understand it

Re: Wasting our time.
can't understand why everyone blames people who come in early and get there fingers out to get the job done, been doing this job for 13+ years and have made time every day,the problem is not with staff but with royal mail allowing it to happen,a while back i refused to do any lapsing because i hadn't got enough time,so dom decided to test my prep rate and delivery,i did the job by the book and all was ok,next day i came in early got my finger out and finished at 11.30,whats the problem,i proved that i finished early because of the way i did the job,not that i had not got enough work!!! the only way to alter things is by royal mail using a clock in/out system, and they will never do that,so until royal mail make it impossible to get done early stop keep blaming staff, blame your dom.
