Seniority on a repick - Urgent

Ok we are currently going through our repick

There are still 4 rounds to pick

All bike rounds, all the same delivery span

Now there are 6 Part time workers in our office. Two senior to me four who are not

These 6 Pt workers have always had rounds that they stick on and never get moved etc

Anyway

Its came to my pick, 4 rounds to go and ive been told I cannot PICK any of these rounds, I must choose to be a spare man,

So that means these PT ers who are NOT senior to me will get their own round and duty structure ( 9 day fortnights ) and I will get shafted weekly.

rep and dom said we cannot have these PT ers as spares as theyd need to put in more hours else due to IPS etc

Some weeks I will be on 5 day rotatin, some weeks 10 hour days , some weeks 9. I will not know week to week when my day off is etc etc and I will not get regular long weekends.

How the hell is this a fair system

Im a full time permanent postie.


Ive refused to pick a spare and have told the rep ill see him monday

So much for 1 in 4 saturdays off f***ing s**t hole

Where do I stand here?

Do i file a grievance or what? Ive been spare for 8 years and looks like im gonna get rogered again

If the duties are part time how can you possibly pick one of them if you are full time contract.

As a side issue, I thought Bikes were being phased out under 2010 and beyond..Hct , park and loop only.

if the delivery is full length then its only the indoor hours that are PT
ergo,why would it matter if the OP chose one of those walks or not
they are still present in the morning for IPS etc

I think that if you have P/Ts you have to have designated P/T duties regardless of the delivery span being the same.I don't think you'll get anyware with a grievence.

are the four rounds parttime jobs if so there is nothing you can do if they are not then you can sign for one of them

If i've read this right,and i'm fecking up a bit lately,your DOM does not want a part timer as a reserve,that is dodgy ground on lots of counts for him.

Being a reserve is the crappiest, hardest job in RM.
I've never understood why we put the least experienced people to cover this.
Reserves should be experienced posties (which generally means f/t but not always)
Doing the crappiest job should attract a "bonus" payment of some sort.

Being a reserve shouldn't affect your entitlement to the same number of Saturdays off as anyone else.
Certainly it will mean more work for your DOM to arrange it - but that's what he is paid for.

In our office we do the 1 in 6 week off, everyone is on that. So there is no problem as you always know when your rota is, even the reserves. So I can't understand what the problem is. If you have different work patterns, then why can't you be a reserve for 1 pattern only.
