Hi Anyone got any tips the guys at the post office want me to do a blind walk out for first time by myself GULP!!!!!! and i'm begining to panic now. Has anyone got any tips to help a poor girl along i'd appriciate it

Don't panic....follow the letters...be careful of gaps.
Google maps is your friend.

We have all been there! Expect, and make allowances for running late, you may get a little lost, and you'll probably end up in tears> but just do your best.Ask around the office and see who has coveredthe walks, and get advice from them.good luck!

Whats a blind walk?, You walk around with dark shades on?

Most delivery points will be obvious.
Numbers/names on doors, walls, gates or whatever but there are always some that, unless you already know them, are a complete mystery.
Don't "deliver it and hope". If you are the least bit uncertain then return the mail to the office, endorse it and hand it into the cage on your return. Better a day's delay than a mistaken delivery.

Get someone who knows the walk to bundle it up for you, take your time and book excess, or cut off

I agree with the above.

The most impotant bit is to bundle it up in the correct order so ask around and find someone who knows the walk and get them to write it down.

Just rem we have all been there at some point and felt the butterflies in the belly and the hot under the collar feeling

Take your time and follow the letters as you go but take time to check the door numbers. After the first day you will find the second SO much easier.

Eveb me with over 20 years service got lost on an absorbtion this week and could not find a couple of delivery drops

ask the floater of duty best way to tie off walk,flat up any stairs if they have time ,you could also ask the line manager for the floater to be exempt from sorting to help you prep the walk as it is youre first time on it .good luck

As mentioned, Google maps is your friend. Take a print out of the streets with you (or just use google maps on your phone if you've got one of them fancy ones). Make sure you bundle up in the proper order - I remember doing a walk I wasn't familiar with and discovering that I had a dead walk of 10 minutes to get to my next delivery point because I hadn't bundled up properly

A good tip I learnt when bundling up on blind walks was to number the bundles as you band them up, and as others say, get a map manager should have one

Definitely number your bundles.

Print off a map if you don't have a phone with map capabilities.

Also ask someone who knows the walk to write on the map where any strange/out of the ways houses are, as well as where the odds and evens are.

Getting instructions from somebody who knows the walk always helps, but that might not be possible (the fact that you're covering it makes it less likely that there will be experienced help on hand).

Make sure you ask about where to split your bags as well! If you're having bags dropped off then you don't want to be going all over the place to collect a bag, then have to lug it back again to wherever you were.

If there are any flats or other residential anomalies, make sure you don't need a key or key code.

Ask about big dogs, you don't want to get bitten. Stairs, etc.

Read the walk report if there is one, there's always oddments of worthwhile information even when they're eighty thousand years old.

Have a walk or a drive round it with a map beforehand,of course i'm not recommending anyone spends their own time and money to do something Royal Mail should be showing you within work time,but if it stops you getting stressed it might be worth doing. Of course if it's tomorrow you're on it........it's too late and that doesn't apply.

At the least get someone who knows it to write some notes and advice down for you. Just do your best,nobody can expect any more than that!
