I wonder how it will pan out to be honest. I left the job at 63 earlier this year and I can't remember anyone staying the course until 65 for years. Most either took VR or went on medical grouds so quite how they expect people to work, eventually,up to they're 70 in what has become a very physical job, beats me. :hmmmm

Hold tight here, equal rights and all that equal pay ect,why should it matter.
Don't forget the work will be off our backs, well it's supposed to be anyway.

I'm not too bothered about it, though I doubt I will beable to do the physical work I do now. Only thing I'm pissed off about is when I started working my retirement age was 60, its a bit much adding another 6 years to it. No doubt when/if I reach 66 the retirement age would've gone up even more.

I completely agree, by the time your 60 the government will increase the age once again (probably 75).

What i don't understand with the government telling us "we are living longer" is a load of bull... and at the same time more people are suffering from some sort of chronic disease than we were dacades ago... the uk is the highest in europe when it comes down to obesity resulting to be even closer to our bed death. The longer they can hold out the state pension the more the government will save. Its a great strategy and one that will work, but the public are not well aware of it.

Remind me, why do i pay for national insurance again (and taxes), when i won't get a pension untill am pretty much dead, i wait 2 months to see a physio with the NHS, and i still see the same mars bar wrapper still left on the street a week ago.

The only thing I was glad about in the ConDems Spending Review announcement is that the State retirement age
will not be raised to 66 (for men) in 2016 as they had been planning. Apparently they were advised that this would
be unlawful under European Equality legislation - so the EU ain't all bad then.

I have made plans to get out. All I am doing is Open University course (Environment studies) part time. 4 more years left for me.

What I will do is to stay on for another year to see things settled down to see if the changes work in my favour and get a lump sum bonus. I am planning to look for new job in 2012 upwards. As I have to work out what kind of job I want to do apart from performing in salsa parties. (and keep entering Euro Lottery to win the whole jackpot :pray) and if I am still there I will reduce from full time to 34 hours. I think I will try my luck to apply for EVR in 2 years time.

I believe Walk scheduling mail will make me much quicker but I don't know how much as I am not that fast on heavy walks and it depends do I get my own walk after re-pick or not as I hate being reserve.

I don't think I could keep up the work rate and my passion for Salsa for rest of my working life.

If you work for Royal Fail you will not live longer, It will just seem that way! :d'oh!

At one time Posties, as an occupation, were considered quite fit & healthy as a group. God knows now, especially with more van work coming in. Why does this job not seem to make you fitter? Don't know about you but it just knackers me! Certainly don't feel like going down the gym after a 5 hour delivery  I've spoken to a few colleagues who feel the same.

The Forces kick you out at 40 because they know you're knackered. As mentioned this job is getting more physically demanding and there seems to be a high proportion of "Old Gits" working in RM (I include myself). Perhaps it's a government plot to make sure no posties make it to the state retirement age, therefore saving them millions :dance
