Mail left in the front of vans

I have heard that you are not meant to keep any mail in the front of your van,so everytime you say stop at a farm you are meant to turn the van off and get there post from the back of the van,is this true? and if so how many of you do this?is it also true that the IB can do you if they see mail in the front of your van?

Was just thinking if everybody worked from the back of the van it would take much longer to do your round,and would have to make rounds much shorter,just was my office was a strong office,everybody still rushes around like it's job and knock.

You are allowed to keep the mail for your next delivery point out of sight in the footwell of the passenger seat.
Yes....... IB will "do you" if they see mail in plain sight and unattended.

Dont really understand the point of this rule when you're driving a combi with rear side windows instead of solid panels. Whats to stop a thief smashing them?
