Senoirity for Re-sign

Post by Dorset Plodder »

Question for any Reps. I thought Seniority was worked out from the date you joined RM, recently a colleague was told it was the date he'd transferred into our DO.

It's very relevant as it will knock 75% of his seniority off and he might not get a chance to be made up to FT. He's had no breaks in service and simply transferred from one office to another.

If the DIMs right it means you can do 20 years in one DO, transfer and only get credited 1 or 2 years in your new DO. Can't see it personally but you never know with these idiots ;liar

Thanks for the prompt reply Postman. Thought it probably was Bull s**t. Don't know where these Dickheads get off making it up as they go along ;liar ;liar ;liar

That's what I like about the site it's a pretty effective Bull s**t Filter :Applause Suppose that's what you get when we're spread all over the country with no EFFECTIVE common communication.

Any idea of a paragraph of Rules & Regulations he could quote if the DIM wants to Bluff it out?

If the Dom persists with his view just tell your mate to ask his Dom for a grievance form after he gives him his decision in writing.
That will probably see the Dom change his view.
Seniority gets carried with you if you transfer, no ifs no buts.
This ain't no baseball game, you get only one chance and you blew it.

13.7 Because seniority is based on length of service there will be no need to adjust seniority when employees transfer between offices, whether on a voluntary or compulsory basis.

Many Thanks for everyone's input :Applause I'll pass it on. Point on the grievance form gb93, I've used them (and know they can move some idle buggers) but have you ever managed to get a DIM to put anything in writing?

I believe they're trained not to put anything in writing, it's too easy to produce it at an Industrial Tribunal! Much better to just Deny, Deny, Deny ;liar

Part Timers are also less willing to cause trouble as they're more reliant on the DIMs good-will to get overtime. s**t system I know

If its length of service then why cant you combine your length of services if you have had a break in service?

Same agreement unfortunately.....
13.6 All service within an appropriate grade, whether on permanent or temporary basis, will count for seniority purposes, with the exception of any periods worked on a casual contract, or during a career break or sabbatical. Unpaid leave will count provided there is no break in contact. Service after age 60 will continue to count. However service must be continuous for seniority purposes, with periods prior to any break in contract (due to re-employment, for example) not generally included, unless there are exceptional circumstances applying to particular cases that are agreed at local level

Development on the original thread: DIM appears to accept the Start of Service as the basis of Seniority :Applause Big of Him.

Next hurdle! DIM says he has to investigate whether staff on 33hr contracts have priority to be "Made Up" to FT over those on a 24hr contract. (Even if the 24hr man is Senior) With your advice he's managed to "jump" half a dozen places on the Seniority list, I've a feeling it put him above a few of the DIMs Favourites( who might not now qualify for a FT contract)

I appreciate that they're fighting there own corner but what's the Official line on this? I had a feeling we'd end up trying to work out some Pro-Rata Hours x Years of Service = Position on Seniority List equation. Trouble is I only got CSE Maths! :hmmmm

He cannot use contracted hours as a measure of seniority....this would be a clear case of discrimination and unlawful.
Do not touch this with a bargepole. :nervous

Give him his due Fishtank, he admits he doesn't know the answer, he's going to pass the buck probably to HR. I agree it sounds dodgy ;liar
I've a feeling we've got a bit of Office Politics sneaking in here, there always seems to be a lot of whispering going on in the DIMs office after any WTL session. :no no
Funny always seems to be the same people (you know the ones with the cushy duties that are still not happy) :Boo hoo!
