VERY IMPORTANT LETTER!!!

Post by alloria »

I had an angry customer speak with me the other day.

You see last week, I had a letter for him, but because there was a big van blocking his driveway, I could not get into his garden to deliver it, so I simply endorsed the letter as "no access" and took it back to the sorting office. I delivered it the next day.

He was angry because it was apparently a very important letter, and that the one day delay had caused him financial problems(!)

I pointed out to him that I was unable to deliver the letter, as his van was blocking his driveway, and I could not get to his house to deliver it, but he just kept going on about how important the letter was!

I then asked him, that if he was expecting this very important letter, why did he block his driveway with a van??? Apparently I was supposed to climb over the neighbors wall, and walk across his grass to get to his door!

So yeah, it is apparently my fault, and he is going to put in a complaint about me, I'm in for a really interesting talk with my manager tomorrow!

Good luck mate. But I'd say, no access is no access.

Surely the van blocking his driveway constituted a hazard to you (blocked entrance) again climbing over neighbours wall constitutes a further hazard (chance that you may slip, trip or fall from the wall) and walking across grass (further hazard with potential slipping consequences). All in all think you done the right thing by endorsing his mail with no access and re-attempted delivery the next day.

Your manager would be the first one to issue you with a blameworthy letter should you have sustained an injury and possible time off whilst attempting to deliver.

its simple really. the van is blocking access. his fault. our manager goes on everyday in the morning about sutff like this. and in his words, if anything seems a H&s issue. dont risk it. if your manager takes it further, go off stress.

This is exactly why RM provide the reason of "Inaccessible" for non delivery, and your manager should trust you Alloria, you made the right call. :Applause :Applause

 You're in the right. Once, I tried to get past a van blocikng a driveway.I squeezed myself between it and the wall of the garage, but unbeknown to me, an old ehxhaust pipe was sticking out sideways! I sort of fell, sideways in slow motion, scraping down the garage wall! No skin left on the back of my hands.

Thanks for your advice people!

My manager spoke to me this morning, basically saying that I had done the right thing by endorsing the letter, and that the customer was in the wrong.

The method by which the important letter was sent is not really the issue. The issue being access was blocked due to a big van being parked up in the driveway.

But Alloria must have known he was blocking access when he parked his big red van in the driveway :chuckle

Nice one brother Broxi51

But no mention of the van being red and it was the houseowners van that was parked up in the driveway.

It would then be tracked and the DIM could not offer his personal opinion when the important letter was not delivered

If you did put "no access" and the next day was your day off - then what would happen if the "cover" bloke "killed it off" and returned to sender

The important letter would never have got to the delivery point, and the owner of the van would be none the wiser when the letter failed to arrive.

AND  Was then van blocking the drive the next day, so how was the important letter delivered, was it handed over in the street? :no no :Very Happy

You have to attempt delivery for 3 days before returning to sender.

OK you've got 2 comp days after the "cover" man! :Very Happy  can you see my drift man.................

After a week off I still have a various amount of RTS, B/Ups, and N/As to deal with, none with any dates that the "attempt" to deliver was made! :wave
