Merging offices

Heard rumours lately that some small offices will be shutting down as their offices will be running out of their lease soon and RM don't want to continue with it (basically another cost cutting idea). They want staff to move to a different location which will mean a further commute for some anything up to 10 miles further to travel. Not sure what this will mean for the customer that wants to collect a packet or signed letter, possibly a redelivery? Of course the people that do move will get compensation. Is this of things to come?

I do see their master plan, so it might work like this....

Move everyone to a bigger office making it a super hub.
Make deliveries longer 4.5hrs so you'll be using a van to get to your starting point and taking everything.
Once your job is finished, drop off shut notice items to the nearest PO and head home with van (drop your colleague off in the process).

Amalgamating offices might be a great way of cutting costs, but i don't think anyone wants to be travelling an extra 15+ mins onto their commute time, especially when some folk just live round the corner from a depot.

we moved to a 'larger' office right on the outskirts of town
in a lovely industrial estate
at the same time they moved 2 smaller postcodes in with us

From what I hear is that the office that closes down the staff have to move to a neighbouring office and they go with £1500. But the staff at the office that they are moving into gets naff all for the inconvenience. More cars in the car park. Lockers relocated. Toilets relocated. You will find a lot of accidents will happen in the crammed office..

similar to what happened to Seaforth and Bootle delivery office, it is now shunted onto an industrial estate, in fact a lot of offcie are now being put in industrial units, it feels like a temporary set up.

Ours is an "industrial" type unit and we've been here for ten years and is leased, much better than the old place which was upstairs and we had to hump the stuff up and down stairs when the lift was buggered. It has since been sold, pulled down and a Witherspoons in its place.
