1) I was off sick last Friday (8th October), and returned to work the next day, on the Saturday. Since then, no manager has said anything to me about my absence, let alone conduct a return-to-work interview. If a manager were to finally carry out an interview, could I challenge it on the grounds that it should have been done on the day of my return? (This absence will, I'm fairly sure, put me on Stage 2, so obviously I'm in no mood to raise the issue myself!) Also, if it turns out that I have been placed on Stage 2 without hearing anything about it, could I dispute it?
2) I submitted a request, via a form request sheet over a week ago, to use one of my 3.5 outstanding days of leave on Tuesday 26th October. Again, I've heard absolutely nothing about it since. How long should I leave it before enquiring? I'm thinking of asking on Monday if nothing is said tomorrow.
Many thanks for any help you can give!

I'd give them a week tops then go and see what they're playing at. You know Tues 26th is in school half term so is probably booked solid already?harry69 wrote: 2) I submitted a request, via a form request sheet over a week ago, to use one of my 3.5 outstanding days of leave on Tuesday 26th October. Yes but chances are you could only get away with it after you have got to a stage 3 then it's dodgy ground.

Yes big time. You could possibly get it cancelled.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

3. RETURN TO WORK DISCUSSIONS
When someone returns to work from absence the line manager must aim as soon as possible to speak privately and out of earshot of others with the person in a non-threatening and supportive way outside formal procedures with the following objectives:
· to acknowledge the employee's return and show it is valued
· for the employee to air any concerns
· to see if any help is needed and provide direction to encourage regular attendance
· to ensure absence is appropriately certified
A RTW and a stage interview are two different things.4. UNSATISFACTORY ATTENDANCE PATTERN
· Where an employee's attendance becomes unsatisfactory (whether or not a letter about attendance has been sent outside the formal procedure) this needs to be explained to the employee in terms of the appropriate stage of the formal procedure. The warning should normally be given at an interview, backed up by written confirmation.
· The interview can be adjourned at any stage if the interviewee raises a factor which requires further investigation or stopped if the interviewer considers that there is no need for further action.
· The employee must be told the outcome of the interview and the stage of the Attendance Procedure which then applies.
The RTW is usually informal and the timescale is vague at best.
The stage interview is formal and SHOULD be less vague.
You can't be issued with a stage warning without your knowledge.

Re: Two queries regarding sickness absence + holiday request
Cheers for the advice, guys! Still not a word has been mentioned about my absence. I guess the only way to find out whether I have been put on stage 2, other than ask (which I have no desire to do), is to see what happens if I'm absent again due to sickness in the next few months.
