Duty structures up - Can they do this??

Post by mandelsons_toenail »

Ok

Our office of roughly 95 staff has had the revision duty structures going up

Seniority is on the wall from 1-95

Delivery spans on bikes are now to be 4 hours irrelevant of being PT or FT

Now we have a number of duties

For arguments sake

6 x 10 hour days
8 x 9 day fortnights
6 x rotating Day off ( as now )

Also the dom has put in 6 PT rounds

Now we have had a major meltdown over this :whistle

Why should guys with less seniority get the pick of PT rounds when it seems that a few FT guys closer to the bottom say 60th will NOT get their own job, yet due to these 6 PT rounds going in some guys with less seniority will

:arrrghhh
Thing is they are all 4 hour del spans, so it isnt like there is any difference with the rounds bar IPS etc

DOM thinks it fair, office at breaking point

Ideas?

We have no issues if a PT has served more time etc than a FT er, as they get to pick a round, yet why should someone below? :shhhhh

:cuppa

Can the DOM do this? Isnt this just bloody wrong?

DOMs answer, well you go down to 30 hours then

I said well I was taken on on a FT contract, 30 hour dudes knew what they were getting

I and others are sick of being spares for 7-8 years, when all these PTers have had their own round 5+ years, weve never had a repick before, so its time to right some wrongs, yet it seems the dom wants to shaft us again,

why are specific duties PT
what is it about those duties that makes them specifically PT?

there is nothing different,

we have 5 or 6 pters who have had their own walks for 5-6 years

Basically the dom/rep dont want to upset anybody

Its a piss take

As I said, all of the rounds are identical in delivery span, its just IPS etc that the FT ers will do

So, wtf is the rep doing

:no no

sick of double standards

All delivery spans should be equal. The pt walks should be thrown in by full timers. and all walks should be picked on seniority and not by how many hours you are contracred for. I think you should go to disagreement.

but it only affects us FTers nearer the bottom, not the rurals who will all get their walks

Im the sub rep and have already said to the rep I dont agree.

He laughed, several members of staff have said its not right

:whistle

Also rep is good mates with area rep :left:

Then what difference does it make if there all the same length

obviously there is some difference or you wouldnt be wining , perhaps just the area its in?

The pick of the PT rounds ? what exzactly is the pick of the PT rounds , if all walks are equal and its done on seniority then i dont understand how the PTers are getting a "PT ROUND" choice

:hmmmm

right

Say for arguments sake there are 26 jobs to choose from ok?

and 30 members of staff

Youd hope that the repick comes from seniority 1-26 for the jobs yes?

The other 4 would be spares or whatever ~ figures here are not important just to show

But in our office, 6 jobs are set aside PURELY for PT ers to pick from

So that leaves 20 jobs in this example. The 21st guy/gal on the seniority list for arguments sake is Full time, but all the jobs have gone, the 6 left are for PT ers only.

So people with less seniority are getting JOBS ahead of time served posties

Its not fair

Do you get me?

The delivery spans of all jobs ( bikes ) are 4 hours. So if your a PT er, you just come in prep and deliver. Full timer does 2 hours IPS or whatever , preps and delivers.

Thats it.

If a PT dude is ahead of a full timer, then yes they should get a round, but people with less seniority should not get a round ahead of more senior posties, purely because they are pt and 6 jobs should NOT have been set aside

Why are those 6 rounds put aside solely for part timers? Thats the crux of the matter, if you dont know why, then ask for an explanation from your dom and rep. It doesnt make any sense to me if all rounds are equal.

It's easier to assign part-time duties before a resign than mess about with duty structures afterwards that's all.
It's just a bit of lazy management.
Is it fair?...not really.....can you stop it?....i doubt it.
Full-timers want to know what the indoor element of the duty they are picking involves....if you just had the "walk" up for resign how could you do that?
Remember 50% of the park&loop duties will have to be "ringfenced" for drivers...is that fair?
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

the reason is because currently these guys/gals have been on their own round for 5-6 years without a resign, they just got them

He doesnt want to upset them, as over half will be spare. 2-3 will get a round due to their senioroty which is fair enough, but its not fair for the rest

crock of s**t

same thing happened in our office, the 6 pt duties should all be in the same rota as they don't have an element of ip in them, you have to set aside a certain amount of duties to pt only, otherwise you end up with to many ft'ers all off on the same day and then your short on ip etc.

I take it you didn't get the delivery you wanted! In our office everyone was given a letter whereby they could ask for preference because of FF, DDA etc and those people have been accommodated if it was relevant. Everyone else, apart from indoor staff who aren't involved in the delivery methods repick until the WSMs are in, are currently having to repick. There is of course some chagrin because it is so long since a repick was done some people assumed they were their duties for life. Now to get to the crux of the matter, 25 hr PT will work 8hrs 20 mins on Thurs Fri and Sat and yes that is every week, 30.5 hr duties will in the main be second string on a park and loop and provide day off cover. That's the choice facing our staff and they have agreed. Whether it's fair is debatable but the choice was theirs.

duty structures are up

I will get a job, some of my FT friends, will not however, they will be spares, with random days off like weve been having for 6 years

Whereas the PT er s ( some ) with less seniority will STILL have their own round, and days off
