How long does it take to recover from a big bite from Alsation ?

as long as it takes.

Recovery from any injury is dependant on many factors and even RM cannot arbitraily decide in takes so long and no more to recover from such an incident

A doctor who has the correct qualifications earned over many years is the only one who can, follow the guidance of your GP/Specialists.

but what about the trauma and flashbacks? could be months and months

I got bitten a few weeks ago, first time in over 15 years service, bit of a shock but luckily it was only a little terrier type. Apparently it was a "rescue dog" well it would have needed rescuing again if i had my way . It only just punctured the skin, but thought id better go to the hospital to see if i needed a tetnus.
Apparently you only need a maximum of 4 tetnus jabs in your lifetime so i was ok. TBH being bitten by an alsation sounds alot more traumatic, so if you need time off take it. Make sure you get the AOD logged on the computer.The thing is it really makes you more wary of dogs. I am definatly more cautious when seeing them now - especially as the one that bit me was on a lead. Never trust the buggers

Make sure you get a dog bite compo form from your DOM.

The broken skin where the bite happened will heal in a week but the bruising can drag on for a few weeks more, esp if its in the calf or other leg areas.

I've been bitten four times since I started ( twice this year ), and I now find I get very anxious around aggressive dogs. I feel compelled to attempt delivery at every address I need to ( what postie worth their salt wouldn't? ), and I won't attempt delivery around any loose aggressive dogs, but if I meet an aggressive dog, and just totally lose my bottle, and cut off, could I find myself on a charge of wilful delay? BTW, I have insisted that each injury from dog attack has been logged on ERICA.

Alsatian - 1 month
Bulldog - 2 weeks
Labrador - 2 weeks
Dacshund - 1 week
Toy Poodle - 2 mins

i just endorse the mail,"dog out " date & time,tell the LM when i get back,no probs,i ain't risking myself getting a nip for anyone,if it makes the owner suffer the hassle of going to the callers office to collect it,even better

ask your manager what the office procedure is for aggressive dogs preventing you delivering,it should be the same as ours

I got bitten by a Rotweiller on the arm last year, there were two of them, I backed up against a wall and ther wouldn't let me move, terrifying. I didn't go off sick, just struggled on like an idiot, looking back I wish I had taken time off.

Bitten mid July, still had bruising and pain mid August looking back at the photos, and the pain went on for a few months to be honest. Each bite is going to be different, I hope yours heals up nice and quickly.

I won't go in a garden if a dog is out, don't care how small or old it may be.....I just put 'dog loose' and date on the letter like dados said. As a reserve I'm alwys going into gardens I don't know and I find I'm constantly looking around for dogs. Also I carry a 'dog spray' or whatever it's called!! Your DOM should be able to get one for you.

SOP is the same here, and I do follow it, but what I'm talking about, is getting so fearful of the possibility of a bite, I return to the office & refuse to go out on delivery under any circustances
